I have NERO 6 with Nero Vision and want to know how to copy an AVI file so it will play on my DVD stand alone recorder/player.

* If your DVD player supports AVI playback, then create a data CD or DVD containing your AVI
* Otherwise, you will need to transcode your AVI to a DVD compliant video stream and author that to a DVD. There are many approaches for this, and many guides can be found on this site. The way I do it is as following

(1) Encode the AVI to a DVD compliant mpg using avisynth and QuEnc as encoder. See this guide
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/quenc.htm

If your original AVI does contain an AC3 stream, then you should not recode the audio, because ac3 is a valid audio format for DVD. Instead, demux the ac3 using VirtualdubMod, then encode only the video stream (*.m2v) and during authoring in step (2), specify your m2v and your ac3.

(2) Author the DVD using DVD AUTHOR GUI. http://www.videohelp.com/~liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl

You can also add subtitles in subrip format. DVDAuthorGui can output directly to an ISO file, a DVD image file that can be burned with ImgBurn.

(3) Burn the ISO from step (2) using DVD Burning software such as ImgBurn.

This is just a "flow chart" of one of the possibilities to proceed. Expect some learning curve and trial and error before you get the grasp.

Thanks for your reply, I found that my NeroVision can transcode this to DVD video file, it will take over 4 hours to do this so I will have to wait I suppose, it should then play on my DVD player.

I will post the result on competion.

Good luck, but you should try the above procedures or even another quality encoder. You might find the results from nero sub-standard.:logfile:

Well it took over 5 hours and I can report that the resulted copy will now play on my stand alone player, and the quality is very good, so I have to give 5 stars to Nero Transcode *****

I don't see the point in going through all of the steps you mentioned when I simply used a programme that is meant for the purpose of transcoding an AVI file to DVD video, of course if the result had been of poor quality then yes I would agree with you, but like I say the end result was of superb standard.

Thanks for your help. :)

only with experience will it be clear to you what the advantage is of using quality encoders. best wishes:)

@bird brain--Keep the tongue in cheek sarcasm to yourself. This is the Newbies Forum; keep that in mind and tread a little more softly. One comment on trying "new methods" was enough; two was over the top, redundant, and contrary to the spirit of forum-based help. It stops, now.

FUCK YOU. I've had enough of this fuckin forum. Stick my membership up your ass. You so called "moderators" make osama bin laden look like a saint. It was a freindly comment. Don't you fuckers have anything better to do? Is it that you know fuck all that you feel the need to condemn every fuckin post of folks not in your gay club? My membership better be suspended in 30 minutes or less otherwise i'll know you are more of a dipshit than i thought. Doom 9 ....the biggest piece of shit forum on the net.

By The Way.... neuron2 (or that idiot with an ugly white cat in his avatar that i'd like to choke) You have to be without a doubt, the biggest idiot around. You being made a "moderator" here is the biggest fallacy that ever existed. I see you elsewhere trying to convey your infinite wisdom, but luckily the powers that be keep you at bay like the pig you are.

In summation in case i wasn't clear enough,I'd like to say a big FUCK YOU to all the mods. You need it. So many members here are biting their tongues daily and wanting to say it,but don't want to get banned as i am about to. I shall speak on their behalf. To the rest of the members who find this post offensive, a big FUCK YOU to you aswell. Good bye Fuckos

It's the newbie forum and your the dipshit carrying on like you know it all.

darkcave clearly stated that he was happy with the result's he obtained with nero recode.

That should have been the end of discussion.
If darkcave wants/wanted to proceed with other methods he/she will/would do so at his/her own pace.
