Which DVD media is the best and most archival?

I hear many say the Taiyo Yuden made in Japan is one of the top picks. Also Verbatim Data Life Plus. Verbatim has disks made in Singapore and some made in Taiwan. I thought I read somewhere that one was good and one was bad...or not as good? If I wanted to get the Verbatim, which ones should I buy?

The media code is what you should keep in mind when buying discs. Check out club.cdfreaks.com, there's lots of useful information there.

-Taiyo Yuden (beware of fakes)
-Sony Made in Japan DVD+R's (also Taiyo Yuden)
-Verbatim (preferably DVD+R)

if you live in north america, look at the top of the spindle at the "OPEN/LOCK" and make sure the font is times new roman font, instead of arial font. all verbatim DVD+/-R's will be MCC coded, but they can be manufactured by 3 different manufacturers. times new roman font is CMC made, arial font is Prodisc made (which you want to avoid).

if you live in europe, i think all Verbatim DVD+/-R's are manufactured by Moser Baer (MBIL).

anyway, those 3 i listed above are probably the best DVDR's period IMO for around $0.50 a disc or less (and many others opinions as well). there are DVDR's that are better, but cost over $1/disc, like Mitsui Gold and Maxell Broadcast quality DVD-R's, but you only should use these for REALLY important backups.
