I've been backing up my DVD's with DVDShrink for quite a while giving me a 4.3gb copy that I keep on a NAS for whole house video distribution. I now want to bring these to my car for the kids (mostly the kids movies), and I plan on buying a Vantec Avox or IAMM NTD-25 (both 2.5" hd players).
I'm thinking I'll chew up a lot of hd space if I keep them at 4.3gb and was thinking I could re-encode them to some sort of AVI
the Avox says it will support the following modes:
MPEG 1, 2, 4 (MPG, MPEG, AVI, M2V, DAT, VOB, IFO etc.) DivX, XviD (except GMC, Qpel option applied)
Anyone have any good ideas on what to use for re-encode? Also any ideas on what the re-encoded size would be? Since I'm driving only 9" screens and a 10.4 dropdown in the car, I'm guessing some additional compression would not be that noticable.
