I have successfully backed up this movie using DvdFab Decrypter but I wanted to do it with Dvd Decrypter. I used PgcEdit with Wizard. Phase 3 failed to clean the crap. I then ran it through VobBlanker to a new folder. The files open with no problem in DvdShrink and it plays in Power Dvd. However when I open the files in PgcEdit, I recieve this error:

I found the problem. PgcEdit says the problem was in vts 22. It seems that this vts was 122mb of nothing so I deleted the vts in PgcEdit and the files are fine.

The 122 MB was probably directors comments. There are 2 AC3 2ch sound files in the extras when you open the movie in shrink.

I used pgcedit with psl2 wizard to generate the psl file. I tried going through the whole process using the wizard and got errors....Shrink still would not open the movie. So I deleted the rip, then re-ripped using the psl file, cleaned with FixVTS using process in place and leaving the blank cells. I didn't use the wizard the 2nd time instead manually imported the psl. It worked.....I'm buring the back up now.

I must have done something wrong when I used the wizard. It says to click OK through the error prompts in pgcedit at some point...which I did. But there was also something, an error, about NAV PAK or something similar where you had to answer yes or no to skip....I hit yes to skip and continued on. Perhaps that was the problem???

Yes! That error is in vts 22. If you sitll have the files on your computer, take a look. This must have been put in on purpose so to annoy everyone.

You need to be ripping in file mode not ISO mode.

are fixvts and ifoedit other programs or part of pgcedit? I tried dvdfab and the rip froze up.

FixVTS is part of PGCEdit and PSL2 Plugin, if you have the installer program installed on your computer. If not you can get it here (http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/PgcEdit_install.exe).

If you are using the wizard from the plugin, fixvts will launch automatically. If you are using the advance mode of the plugin you will half to open fixvts manually.

Delete all 4 files.

OK - please update your plugin - a full re-install. This includes the new version of VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm), released today AND a new beta of PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) which automatically deletes the files of the last phony VTS (23) and fixes the bad pointers in the crap VTS (22). All you'd need to do after the rip is delete the phony VTS (22), which has over an hour of blank crap in it.

And, it's no good just deleting the files for VTS_22. They need to be unreferenced from VIDEO_TS.IFO.

So, from PgcEdit's menubar: DVD --> Delete last VTS in DVD and all is taken care of for you automatically. Save and load into DVD Shrink or whatever.

In the interest of simplicity, I decided to try the old tried and true. I first ran it through the latest DVD Fab Decrypter, and stripped it with the latest VobBlanker, and finally finished it with DVD Shrink. Worked like a charm. I hope this is of help to those of you who seem overwhelmed by this Movie.

And in the interest of even greater simplicity (although not a freeware-only solution), I just used DVD95Copy v.36_62 to rip, compress, and burn the Region1 version of "When A Stranger Calls". It took care of everything properly, including the VTS22 and VTS 23 nonsense.

Despite the good rip, this new version of the movie isn't nearly as good as the original with Carol Kane (or even the television sequel to the original, "When A Stranger Calls Again") ;>}

Plenty of free transcoders and encoders, too. Plus any half decent encoder (eg HCenc), will outdo DVD9Copy anyday in terms of quality.

I truly wonder why you continue to "push" this product.

I don't "push" it, I use it - just like some other posters use other commercial programs, such as AnyDVD, DVD2One, or myriad other programs.

Additionally, as opposed to most others, it is a true "soup to nuts" one-click program - which is specifically what I posted about here (regarding the "simplest" way to duplicate this DVD).

Ok I used this PSL file on DVD DECRYPTER and it worked fine. the problem is that im trying to burn through NERO and its giving me this message.

"Nero Recode 2 encountered an error and cannot continue"

An Iternal Error occrured. A VOBU address is out of bounds. This may be caused by an invalid DVD navigation structure.


Has any ran into this problem? or can help me

You need to correct the VMG title sets from 22 to 21 and that will fix your problem.

Removing the last VTS in PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) does this automatically WarDog.

From the menu: DVD --> Remove last VTS in DVD
