When I put a non-region 4 DVD in my drive to make an image using dvd-shrink, a message pops up that I have 4 opportunities to change my region, then it will lock onto the latest used region. Does that mean it will lock the software, or will it actually lock my DVD player onto another region?:thanks:

Hi!
If you haven't installed a region-free program, and continue to use DVD Shrink to rip DVDs from alternating different regions, after 4 more such rips your drive will be permanently set to the region of the last such rip.
Again, you could install a region-free program or, if I remember correctly, use DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 to do all of your rips...

if you use up all your region changes, you'll be stuck on the last one set.
often you can flash your firmware and get your region changes back, but that depends on the drive.
just rip with DVDdecrypter and brute-force (it'll ask you automatically). you should be able to continue using DVDdecrypter in region 4 because as far as i know, none of the stupid new copy protection measures have been used on region 4 discs (i could be wrong though... i haven't played many non-madman discs lately. does disney import it's discs or replicate them in the country they sell in? guess it's a matter of cost).

Two possibilities
I would go buy something like AnyDVD, install it, then use it to automatically remove the region nonsense. then continue as before..you shouldn't get region complaints anymore.
Another choice is to look for a region-free firmware update for your drive. They exist for all the common dvd-rom and burners out there.
