I'm trying to backup my copy of Aeon Flux.
I have no problem what-so-ever with getting the original copied to my hard-drive via DVDFab (at the default settings). I've tried buring it to a +R D/L but I keep making 3 dollar coasters...

Can someone please help me out?

I have:

Nero7 Ultra Edition
DVDFab (Express, I think)
DVD Shrink
DVD Decrypter
Alcohol 120%
DiscJuggler

I should be able to get this burned, right?

Hi!

The Region 1 release of "Aeon Flux" does not have any newer ("ARccOS" or "RipGuard") copy protection. To make a 1:1 copy to DVD+R DL media:

1) Use DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 (NOT DVDFab Decrypter) to rip to your hard drive in "ISO" mode, by selecting "Read .ISO"

2) Use DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 to "Write .ISO" (burn the DVD+R DL media) - select the ".MDS" file (NOT the ".ISO" file) - to ensure creation of a proper layer break. (As an alternative, you could use "IMGBurn", by the author of "DVD Decrypter", to burn)

What specific procedures have you tried so far? How far do you get before you discover you've burned a coaster? Are there any error messages or logs? If so, post them.

If the title isn't RipGuard or ARccOS-encrypted, all you need is DVD Decrypter, rip in .ISO mode, then burn with DVD Decrypter (or ImgBurn) using the .MDS file.

I was using DVDFab to copy to my hard-drive.
After that I was tring to use Nero Recode (in DVD9 mode, of course) to burn the files to disc.
I always got a write error about 25% through the job.

EDIT:
How can I change the layer 0 data zone if I need to do so in the future? I'm thinking that was what my problem was/is...
I'm guessing that's the same thing your talking about when you say "layer break"

SECOND EDIT:

I've got a working copy but it "hangs" in a few places for a second or two (in the main movie only) while playing in a stand-alone dvd player.
Is this normal or should I try changing a setting or two?

Have you tried the suggested method?I've got a working copy but it "hangs" in a few places for a second or two (in the main movie only) while playing in a stand-alone dvd player. Is this normal or should I try changing a setting or two?Other than absolute "lockups" at the end of the movie, which are typically due to use of poor quality media, momentary "hangs" can be caused by just about anything, including specks of dirt.

For successful burning of DL media, the most frequent suggestion is to use Verbatim+R DL media (and to completely avoid using DVD-R DL media of any brand). What are you using?

Yes, I did exactly that and ended up with a working copy.
The main movie locks up at the begining of the 3rd to last chapter.
I am using Verbatim.

Could it be my DVD player and the fact that it's almost four years old? (Lasonic PDS-1300)

Could it be my DVD player and the fact that it's almost four years old?yes, it could. YOu might want to try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your player. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US. Also, don't burn the DL media at faster than 2.4X.Yes, I did exactly that and ended up with a working copy.Glad to hear the suggestions worked for you ;>}

The main movie locks up at the begining of the 3rd to last chapter.are you sure this isnt the location of the layer break?
if so, it doesnt matter how many cleaning kits you use, they wont make a scrap of difference, s the pause is due to the way your dvd player buffers the information, and when changing from one layer to the next you will see a pause, which can be up to a few seconds in length.

I burned it at 1X. I try to burn as slow as I can just so there are no quality issues with the backup.

A few chapters into the movie, I do notice a pause of 1-2 seconds. The movie doesn't lock like it does at the end.

I'm guessing that this slight pause is where the layer break is at.

Is there a way I can move the break so I can get rid of that slight pause?
