Hello all. I apologize for posting this in the General forum, but I'm honestly not sure what forum it belongs in. Mods, please move this thread if you feel it appropriate.
I'm just getting into encoding. I read a few guides and I pumped out a very nice (imho) quality h264 encode, in avi format with no audio or subs. I preview it, it looks great. Then I put it in an mkv container and add the audio and subtitles. I open it, and doesn't look as good. The brightness has been slightly increased and the colors look kind of washed out. I did some experimenting and deduced that the culprit was none other than DirectVobSub. When DVS was loaded, the brightness was messed up, and when it wasn't, the picture looked the same as the original avi. This is extremely troubling to me; I thought DVS only displayed subtitles, I wasn't aware it did modified the picture... Can someone assist me in disabling whatever post-processing DirectVobSub is doing?
