I've the newest USB Tuner from Hauppauge, is it possible still to use WinTVCap (http://wintvcap.sourceforge.net/) and Wintvcap Start (http://wintvcapstart.de.vu/)?

The programs doesn't seems to recognize the board :(

So you have an external USB connected box and are using that to capture? These tend to require special drivers and wont work in any fashion with a program designed for PCI cards such as the one above.

GBRecord, which seems to be a clone of WinTVCap, supports the USB model :)

Now I just need to figure out what the best preferences are ;)

Ok, I'll try to make a guide for future readers



First you need to install the stable WinTVCapStart:
http://www.michaelweigand.biz/wintvcapstart/wintvcapstart.exe

Then overwrite the .exe file with the newest beta (for GBRecord support):

You now need to install GBRecord (or actually you only need to extract it)
http://www.gbpvr.com/GBRecord92.zip

In the GBRecord folder open direct.ini and add a Preset section. Mine looks like this (Denmark):

DR1=175
DR2=182
TV2=189
Kanal4=203

The letters and numbers before the = is the channelname and the number after is the frequenze where i'd to discard ,25 from them all (ie: DR1 should have been 175,25 but i had to discard ,25).

Then you need to set some default properties. I recommand you set those:
ForceStandard
DefaultCountryCode
DefaultDeviceType <-- you must set this (you can find the models below in same document)
DefaultProfile <-- you must set this

I used a modified medium quality profile. My usage of recordings it to compress it to XviD with AutoGordianKnot and store it on my harddisc:

[PROFILE-Medium Quality]
VideoResolution=2
OutputType=14
BitRate=998
AudioSampleRate=1
AudioBitrate=11
AudioOutput=0
BitRatePeak=1024
AudioCompression=8
EncodingMode=1

Now go back to WinTVCapStart and choose settings; Set GBRecord folder and output folder. Now you can schedule recordings with WinTVCapStart (Note: It uses Windows task scheduling, I've to gain it access by typing administrator password in Windows Task Schedulings after I add the schedule in WinTVCapStart)

Note: Record now and Unlimited Record doesn't work in WinTVCapStart, if you click on one of them you've to restart the program.

There's a problem with the presets, as it is now with theese configurations it'll only record the last channel you have seen in WinTV2000

I've solved it now, I needed to find the channel numbers.

You can use the Tuning Assisten in http://www.gbpvr.com - sorry I don't now else how to find channel numbers :(

What exact model have you got. I have the Hauppage HVR-900 USB model. As I do not have a digital freeview reception in my area I am confined to using an analog input from my Sky Digibox and consequently can only recieve 1 channel at a time. However my main concern is with the quality of the captured video/audio stream. I have tried WinTV2000, MainconceptPVR and even Nero to capture programs all with the same result. When recording anything over framesize/resolution 352/288 it introduces a lot of crackling on the audio stream. As I want to burn the recording to DVD this is not exactly a perfect solution. How does your recordings turn out.

PS: My device is like a USB key that plugs into a USB port. I noticed in your first post you mention "The programs doesn't seems to recognize the board ". Is your device also like a USB key?

I have a winTV usb2 (the one without hardware mpeg2, got it for $20 after rebates :cool: ) I have been using virtualVCR for capture, which always drops 5-6frames at the beginning of the capture.

I'll have to try out this capture program and see if it's any better. :thanks:

Mine is Hauppauge PVR USB2 but there seems to be a strange problem (Maybe it was just a one time error you know, for some unknown reason) but i would have recorded 2 hours last night, but it only recorded the first 35 minutes :(

I can't say why it's scratching but try a higher compression.
