Subtitles in Media Player Classic

I have a mp4 file I made with suptitle in nero recode that shows the subtitle in show time but does not show in MPC.
The subtitle tab in the play menu of MPC is not activated.
It seems I am using "ffdshow Mpeg 4 video decoder".

Any Idea why MPC has subtitle disabled?

By the way I did a search and found:

Well there are 2 things you need to do:
1. In MPC Options, at Playback/Output/Directshow Video you have to tick VMR7 (renderless) or VMR9 (renderless)
2. You also need to install Haali Media Splitter (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/)

I have Haali Media Splitter installed. I also set the output to VMR7 (renderless). No subtitles yet. I could not even get subtitles for DVD playback. Do I need the Haali for DVDs as well? Perhaps Haali is not being used even though its installed.

I'm not sure what subtitle format Nero uses, but these are the two most likely problems:
1. Haali media splitter is not opening and being used to split the file. Disabling the Nero Digital splitter will most likely fix the problem and allow Haali to run. There's instructions on how to do this here: http://cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Issues:MP4_Audio_or_Video_not_Appearing
2. The file is getting split properly but MPC is not / cannot render the subs correctly. You will need to use an external subtitle renderer then, which is namely directvobsub. You can find that here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DirectVobSub.htm
