View Full Version : InterVideo MPEG-2 vs. 3ivX vs. Xvid for realtime capturing with bitrates 2000-5000

I'm looking for best solution in realtime capturing with bitrates like 2000-5000 kbites/sec (720*576)
I'm trying to fit 1 hour captured video and sound into 2Gb.
InterVideo MPEG-2 is built in TVTuner SoftWare and max bitrate in this case is 4500kbit/s. CPU load is 60-70%.
3ivX - now i'm using Constant Quality with Q=2 (100%) and with clear video (no noise) it is near 2500 kbit/s. If video is with noise - birates rizes to High. I'm swithced on only Half Pixel motion and CPU load is near 80-85%.
Xvid if to slow to capture with comfort quality (same as 3ivX) - maybe I can't configure it to run best with my Sempron 3000. CLU load it under 90% if only i set Motion Search not more then 2-3 and VHQ - off or 1 Mode Decision (in that case Motion Search is off).
So - what codec will give me best quality in this bitrates with CPU load <90% with my CPU (Sempron 3000 x64 SSE2 SSE3).

If you use constant quantizer you shouldn't have to worry about MSP 0 or very low. It doesn't make the video look worse, all it does is probably blowing up the bitrate as it intra codes most stuff as it doesn't search/find good motion vectors. (i used to use Q2/MSP0 when i used xvid for capturing in the past, but that is more in the 20mbit/s range than 2-5).

If you use constant quantizer you shouldn't have to worry about MSP 0 or very low. And what is MSP0? Can you explaine. And why 20mbit/s.
I'm getting 0.3-0.4mbytes / sec capturing 720*576 with xvid and 3ivx to with q=2

and 20mbit/s it is probably due to noise in the signal, but also because like i said, low motion search blows up the bitrate.
However 0.3-0.4 mbytes/s (2.4-3.2mbit/s) seems extremely low for a Q2 to me, unless you are capturing from a digital source or applying noise reduction.
Even if i recompress the 15mbit/s i got in a sample today to q2 with b-frames and basicly every CPU effort enabled i still end up with 6.5 mbit/s :X

I don't know why it is - but with 3ivx (Q=2 100% and HalfPixel Enabled) i gets 0.3-0.35 mb/sec with 768*576 resolution. I use light denoise built into TVTuner software and that's all. I can upload small video for example if you are interested.
It is last TV program captured by me - here is 4.215 Mb with 736 x 552 resulution (768*576 with 16 and 8 crop) http://dump.ru/files/2/292445967/cut.avi
