I'd like to apologize for how ignorant I'm about to sound... but anyway..

For a class of mine, we have to make a parody of a popular TV show which we will be filming with a home DVD Camera.

On TV shows and movies however, the whole thing just feels different. Everything is smooth and even (I really can't explain this), but if you recorded something with a camcorder and their cameras, it would look drastically different.

I'm wondering if there is any way to make the footage more like a real TV production, using any way possible.

Thanks again.

The biggest problem most people have when trying to emulate professionally produced work is lighting. Try to use enough direct light sources to completely illuminate the subject (unless you're going for a moody shadowed look) and eliminate harsh shadows in the background. An off-white sheet can be a good ad-hoc diffuser to soften the effect. You'll need to do the proper conversions later, but there's only so much you can do in the computer after the fact.
