For some reason my sony dvd drive on my computer tends to not be able to read several dvds now, example, its all gone pete tong, man of the house, etc....when i put the dvd in the rom you can see the light go on that shows its reading it...but then it does nothing and the systems says there is not dvd in the drive....any ideas how i can fix this? does it have something to do with dual layer dvds or something? hope someone knows....

Are these production DVDs or copies? The shelf life of a copy can be pretty short.

Is it only a select set of discs, or all of them? If the latter, I would tend to think hardware failure of the DVD drive or its IDE controller.

Try rebooting the computer with a DVD in the drive that isn't being recognized. If it comes up and reads, it's likely a driver issue or a setting somewhere. If not, it may be the drive itself failing or is dirty.
