Hi, folks, this is my first post. I'm looking to buy a DVD drive and I wanted to know if there are certain brands that have hardware DRM that I should avoid. I search the forums already for duplicate, so I'm pretty sure this is the only thread on this topic. Thanks!

Hi!
Actually, you'll probably fare far better by posting in the "Hardware" sub-forum here...

This is a cross-posting of this thread.

c'mon mate, give bedrock_schleprock a break. the reason for the cross-post was because of a misinformed advice from someone with far more posts than they: Actually, you'll probably fare far better by posting in the "Hardware" sub-forum here...
as neuron 2 states ine the other thread, the correct procedure is to ask a mod to move your existing thread rather than start a new one, particularly when you have already started receiving help on your topic.
i will keep this thread open for now and will move it later if no further advice is forthcoming in this sub-forum.
good luck bedrock_schleprock and sorry that your first post ended up being such a shamozzle.
cheers

@bedrock_schleprock
Sorry if I inadvertently caused you grief. I forgot to say, "and delete this post"...
I forgot to say, "and delete this post"...
ermmm ... no.
as i said, if you post in the wrong forum AND someone answers your intial post, it is the correct netiquette (and forum procedure) to ask one of the sub-forum mods or admin to move your thread to the appropriate forum.
if you simply delete your initial post, the valuable information that may have been contributed to your query will then be lost.
i hope this finally clears this up for one and all.

In this specific case, nothing would have been lost, as I was the first respondent... If you had admin privileges, you could have moved the post, yourself. You do not. I've cautioned you in the past to stay out of threads for which you have no positive, or informed, input. Moving a thread, as suggested by jel, would have been the proper manner in which to have handled this issue if the Moderation Team decided it was a necessary move. Having no admin privileges, you could have run a search and enlightened yourself, simultaneously. Furthermore, stop advising our Newbies to re-post and delete, it's a bogus maneuver. Serious forum surfers click on the "New Posts" button which enables them to find topics of interest, no matter which sub-fora they're posted to.
Doom9 created the Newbies Forum as a place for new or inexperienced members to ask questions until they become more familiar with our hobby, or develop confidence. I find your advice in this case to be redundant.
bedrock--Here's the results of a Google search on "DRM DVD drives (http://www.google.com/search?q=drm+dvd+drives&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official)". I scanned the third return and found it worth reading; I'm sure others are, as well. You might run a search and expand your criteria to "DRM DVD standalone players", if you've some time on your hands.
