I'm utterly clueless when it comes to DVD burning  I've read through some posts here and they all make no sense to me, too many technical words :(

I was hoping that someone could help me through it. I've got some AVI file which add together to be about 4.44Gb, is it possible to burn them onto a DVD to be playable on a normal DVD player? Also, usually for CDs I just use Windows Media Player to burn (though I can use RealPlayer too, I guess) can this also be used to burn DVDs?

Sorry about this juvenile question, but I really don't have a single clue. If possible, can you answer simply without the technical words for I wouldn't understand it at all...

Welcome to the Forum:

First off, establish what it is you want to do; in your case, you want to convert AVI files to DVD. Click on the Doom9 link at the top of the page; click on Guides; click on Format Conversions. Choose a workflow and take off. Most of those guides will have a burning guide included.

One of the easiest things to do would be to take your original disc, rip it with DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Decrypter, then process the resulting file in DVD Shrink. You can find a guide for this under Guides > DVD/miniDVD > Backup Guides.

If you don't have the original disc to work with, read these; Doom9's Fair Use Disclaimer (http://www.doom9.org/disclaimer.htm), the Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), and the Announcement (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?f=6) from atop the Newbies homepage for further clarification on what we can and cannot help you with. Don't bring questions on downloaded avi files that you want to "append" and burn to a single disc.
