capture HI8 tapes without digital camcorder

I have as job capture a holiday video that was taken with an analog handycam.
the camera has the mode to record in 16/9 but when plugged to the tv or to the capture card it's stretched and comes in 4/3.
how can I safely capture it?
what i have in mind, plug it to the television, then plug the television to the composite line in of the tv card. but how do i make for the aspect ratio?
some other question? why s-video never works i get the image but not the sound, i am always forced to use three wires rca, a yellow (video) a red and a white for audio. they use to say that svideo quality is better.. but how it comes? i live in the lands of scart, so the tv has scart, the vcr has scart, the tv card has composite and svideo. i am always forced to use those scart to composite converters, you know which ones i am talking about? if not i'll up a picture.

S-video (as the name says) is only video. Use the white and red with the S-video to get audio.

You should plug the camera into the capture card for best results. If you can't adjust the aspect ratio using the card, capture in lossless and then fix the aspect ratio in AviSynth.

connect to the capture card is not possible even though the tv has a composite video in it the audio must be through the line in of the sound card, and it's only a 3.5 mm jack not rca white and red. so i have to buy a converted rca to 3.5, and the sound gets out only through only one of the loudspeakers
it's only possible with this old camera to record in wide mode but the playback, you can't choose, they say to set the screen mode of the wide-screen TV to the full mode to watch correctly proportioned images in wide-screen format.
would it be too much to ask what filters use in avisynth?
