DVDFab Decrypter and DVD Navigation errors

Been a couple months since I ripped a DVD and from what I read it seems like our friends at Sony have been working hard...

Anyways I upgraded DVDFab decrypter to the latest and ripped the DVD "Fun With Dick and Jane". It rips fine and plays back fine and I can also load it into DVD Shrink without any problems.

However I just don't rip and then shrink. I use DVD remake pro to remove previews and other junk I don't want so when it comes time to compressing, it will have the best quality possible. When I load the ripped output from DVDFabD, it finds DVD navigation errors. All of them are the same error: Cell command is not assigned to any PGC cell. The cell command in question is: if (R[6] <= R[6]) LinkPrevCell.

I've tried running FixVTS and VOBlanker, but they only create more navigation errors, infact VOBlanker creates a navigation error in every VTS.

If I proceed to ignore the DVD navigation errors and make a DVDRemake Pro output, when I test play it it gets to the menu, I hit play, choose wide or full and it just turns black and stops.

When I run the DVDFabD output through VOBlanker, it just goes straight to the movie and skips the menus all together.

For encoding, you have to use the PGCEdit tools (wizzard) to correct dummy sectors.

I think your problem is from the rip with DVDFab.
I recommend using the PSL2 Plugin and DVDD. Since you are using DRMP you really do not need to use VOBB or FixVTS to clean up the IFO's and VOB's.
With DRMP you can delete the ARccOS or RipGuard protected cells in the VTS's and delete all the other cells that are not assigned to any PGC. DRMP will correct the IFO's and VOB's when you export, but if you really do not understand how to use DRMP then using the PSL2 Plugin and phase 1 from the wizard will walk you straight thru the rip to the clean up with FixVTS. Then when you import to DRMP you should only see maybe cells that are not assigned highlighted in red which you can delete with no problems. Just be careful of what you are deleting with DRMP because you can break the DVD structure causing playback problems.

Thanks for the info. I thought DVDD was dead, shows how much I know. I'm giving it a run with the PLS2 plugin thing. Is this how everyone rips DVD's now? They keep adding steps for us don't they :D.

I have used DVDD for years and the plugin keeps it ticking along like an ole Timex ;)
Here (http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/PgcEdit_install.exe) is the latest release with all the new updated files. Like I mentioned earlier, using phase 1 from the wizard will make things a lot easier for you on ARccOS or RipGuard protected DVD's.

Thanks again for the info. DVDD with PGCedit ripped it like a charm. No DVD navigation errors in DVDRM now. Looks like I'm going to stick with DVDD for now :).

BTW you said you could edit the individual command cells with DVDRM. I tried this after a DVDFab rip, I went to the problem areas on the DVD and deleted the red commands so there were no more highlights. But this broke the navigation and it just went into the movie instead of the menu.

Ok DVDD movie plays fine, shows previews, no DVD navigation erros. Now when I load it into DVDRM, block out preview blocks, and export, it no longer goes to the menu but straight to the movie. Uggh!

I'm unchecking the auto-bypass option hoping this will fix this...

DRMP has a trace mode you might want to check and see where you broke the DVD structure at. I think when you were removing previews etc you broke the structure. If you delete the previews this will cause problems. You are better off to hide the previews and normally they will still excute properly in your standalone.

What method do you use to just hide the previews. I'm kinda new to DVDRM, but what I did was right click the preview and choose "hide block" is this correct? Or is there a better way to do this? TY.

A cell command does not have to be assigned to a cell - just look at the 100s (sometimes) of rubbishy cell commands in ArccOS DVDs.

So, it's just a little warning from DVD Remake Pro (http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/index.php). Plus, of course that command can never be true anyway - it may as well be a NOP.

Don't sweat it. The PSL plugin will clear out the crappy cell commands (and unplayed cells in the cell table). DVDFD has obviously left them in.

By the way, the installer for the plugin has been updated - it now includes the latest VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) (2.1.1) and PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) beta (7.0.1 B4).
