Hi There People.

I am new to this forum and apologise if I have posted this message to the wrong section. I have read most of the "Stereo to Surround" thread but can't really find the answer I need.

I have 2 stereo files, which are WX & YZ: (blank for Z). I want to use B-Dec to make these files into 4 mono files corresponding to my speaker feeds. The B-Dec help file, such as it is presupposes that I know Nuendo but I don't really. I'm not even sure if I also need to use B-Pan as well. Could some kind soul please talk me through the inserts and sends and the surround sound busses configuration? I've been going round in circles for over 24 hours and I'm a bit fraught. I've looked at all the ways I could find to do a simple conversion but they all seem to require a multitude of programs or procedures. Anyone done this procedure successfully? I do not have C-Sound installed, nor do I want to tackle another software chain if avoidable.

Thanks
Karen

Hi Karen,

There's really no need to bother with inserts, sends, busses, etc. in Nuendo or reading old guides for this.

All you need to do is treat your two files as if there were regular stereo files. When you import them into Nuendo, it will display an Import Options dialog box foe each file. Simply check the box next to Split channels and each channel will reside on its own track. Do this for both files and you'll have your four files to route wherever you wish!If you don't want to bother with Nuendo, any audio editor that splits stereo into two mono files will work. As far as they are concerned, a 2-channel wave file is just a 2-channel wave file.

So no need for sends, inserts, reading complex guides, busses, or anything else.

By the way, if you'd like to check out some other B-format files, go to http://www.ambisonicbootlegs.net/. Combine these with the new software developed by Dr. Bruce Wiggins at http://sparg.derby.ac.uk/SPARG/Staff_BW.asp and one can get an appreciation of what real ambisonic recordings sound like.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask here or send me a private message.

Regards,
Steve.
