WinDVD takes very long to load

I tried WinDVD 6 and 7 but both versions take over a minute to start playback. At first I thought the players wouldn't even start playback as they didn't respond anymore and had to be killed in the task manager. But then I let them run for a while and anywhen the movie started.

I removed other DVD.Players I thought might cause the trouble but that didn't help.


Any suggestions how to make WinDVD startup normally??

I know this isn't a correct answer to your question.. :rolleyes: but I think it could be useful: why only WinDVD?
Try VLC and see if it works.. ;)

Strange.. I use it because in my experience it never failed..
Back to your 1st post, a couple of questions:

- do you have this problem in loading DVDs also with other players? I mean, before uninstalling the other players did you try with them too?
- which DVDs are you using? Original, backups etc..

Other players work fine and it doesn't depend on the kind of file. It even takes long when I start the program without a movie.

Try reinstalling, or uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling. There could be some corrupted something or another in the system right now.

You should probably run a registry cleaner like CrapCleaner or RegCleaner (or both) between the uninstall and reinstall. That will clear any bad codec references and such.

About the solution, I'll add to what Foxyshades suggested. Uninstall, reboot, clean up with some good pc maintenance utility [Tuneup, Ace etc...], reboot, reinstall, reboot [if program tell u to] & start the program. & Let us know what happens.

I followed the suggestions but unfortunately no change.

The startup itself is not the problem but it take so long until the gui accepts any inputs or the playback actually starts. I encountered this problem some time ago with zoom player and I think it has sth to do with codecs to be loaded.

I think I know now what the problem is. The Intervideo Codec collides with the one of my DVB-Stick and there doesn't seem to be a workaround.

I've had the same delayed-start problem with WinDVD. Took ages to load (somewhere around 50 seconds to 1 min), and I always thought it was because it tries to read all drives before starting up, or something like that.

I switched to PowerDVD and have had no such problems. Everything works fine, including DTS audio. Takes about 8 seconds or less to load up on my machine.

I'll try PowerDVD again but with WinDVD installed. Hopefully it won't cause any trouble under the direct show filters.

Try also latest VLC, maybe your problems won't happen again.. :)
