I've been searching a lot documents but found nothing about how to mix rear centre track into surround tracks. Vegas has the function to mark EX flags, but still cant mix EX. Is the rc mixing matrix still not released to public?

Matrix EX involves positioning a signal in equal level & phase in both surround channels. (Put your signal in both surround channels and make sure it is a mono source, or pan it to middle back.) Do test recording. It should work great.

I'll see what I can do. I'm in the middle of developing a standalone, non-VST version of V.I (load a stereo file, save a 6-channel file or 6 mono files) so that's been taking most of my audio-related leisure time. I did do a test VI.I version 1.11 and got some feedback about the surround center level being too high, but I never got around to fixing it. I'll put that on my todo list.

Regards,
Steve.

One more note about the Vegas Dolby Digital EX setting. It's just an identification flag put in the Dolby Digital metadata that tells a Dolby Digital EX receiver to operate in the EX mode.

Some years back, Dolby had a problem with their EX flag with a few 5.1 receivers, so there was a couple of years of Dolby Digital EX encoded DVDs being released without the DD EX flag. The soundtracks were all still EX encoded, but the EX decoding had to manually activated.

To get Vegas to encode a DD 5.1 EX just add an extra track (u can name it RC) and load the audio into it. Then, in the Surround Panning options for that track, set both rear R and L enabled (and Front R, C and L disabled) with the position icon in the rear-middle, and when encoding to AC3, the mixing of the rear channels will give u a EX encoded track. I use it with my Audigy 2 ZS and it works perfectly.
