Trying to figure out which has the better DVD inkjet printing surface:
Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

i haven't used the taiyo ones, but FWIW the verbatims are quite good, but a little too porous - they'll dry out your CD pen very quickly, and they can be a bit rough on an inkjet IMHO - we get a lot of streaky colour on the robot "pirate machine" here - a USB 2 rig with 2x plextor drives, a small printer, a robot arm and room for 100 blanks. the streaks could be something else though...
as for the media quality, well i'm not sure about them. they burn and rip well, are compatible with all the DVD players here (there's heaps of them, all brands, all ages, varying price and quality) but they scratch very very easily. give it to a PR person for a couple of weeks and suddenly it's unrippable. i suspect all discs are like this though... maybe i should ask the PR people to treat the discs better?

Get Verbatims with Taiyo Yuden dye, best of both worlds!

I use both and prefer the Verbatim surface.
Btw, Verbatim just came out with Glossy Printable discs.
MCC media code.
CD Freaks gave high ratings in their review.

Just the color of the surface.
For full color graphics, white is a good choice (since there is no white ink).
But if you use only text for example, the silver looks a bit nicer to some people.

do the shiny disks make your print glossy.im using the white tops and my prints are dull looking.

Ridata has the best printable surface that I've used. It's a lot smoother and a bit more glossy than the Verbatims and TYs, and I've had no trouble with them in the last four months or so (had some trouble late last year). Between Verb & TY, the Verb surface seems to be slightly better, but there's really not much difference between the two.
