Hi,
I have made a backup copy of one of my DVDs (DVD-9).
The original disk runs without a glitch but the copy I have made while playing on my PC stops at the same spot every time. I move the slider slightly forward on the player and it plays further OK but it is really annoying.
Is there any way to fix the problem? Thank you!

Sounds like the layer break wasn't properly set...

Thank you!
Could you please specify what program I can use to fix the problem?

I believe you can resolve the problem by using PGCEdit - or, if you already have an .ISO image file, you can use IMGBurn...

Thanks!
I am a novice in the stuff. If you could please advise a tutorial to read or may be provide some intructions, that would be greatly appreciated.
I do have the image file but ready to work with the other program if it is easier to work with.

I do have the image fileI'm confident that if you download IMGBurn, you'll find it self-explanatory, since its sole purpose is to burn image files ;>}

PGCEdit's web page is at http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/
CheekyMonkey - You're new here, so please take this to heart. The Doom9 forum people get SERIOUSLY bent out of shape at people who are too lazy to look things up for themselves. I was kind to you in proviing the link above, but I do want to point out that had you entered PGCEdit in a search engine, that page would have been your first hit.
It might have been nice if you had told us if you burned to DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL because it does make a BIG difference. You have to manually set the layer break in -R DL or it won't work. The default "Let IMGburn pick the break point" option works fine on +R DL only. You can find out more by doing some searching on your own.

Thanks everybody for your input.
It was DVD + R double layer but it looks like it has nothing to do with media.
I have made a new copy of the original DVD with DVD Shrink. Then I have created ISO with Image Classic Tool 0.93.1 and played it back from the hard drive (emulated with Virtual Daemon) with Media Player. The movie freezes again once Chapter 13 starts.
I have saved the log that Image Classic Tool had created and can post it if it might help but it’s huge (over 100 pages!). It mostly shows:

0.03% done, estimate finish Wed May 3 12:33:15 2006

0.09% done, estimate finish Wed May 3 12:33:15 2006
and so on and after this just a few lines

I also tried another way. I burnt DVD from the same files but with Nero (without creating ISO) and also played it back with Media Player. There is no freeze at all!
When I play ISO with Media Player, I see 30 Chapters. When I play the movie (files) created with Nero, I see a different structure: there are no chapters but there are 7 Titles. The spot that freezes is somewhere in the middle of the Title and runs without freezing.
I did my best to explain what I’ve got. Sorry if something is not clear. Thank you for your time!
P.S. Though the Nero way works I cannot use Nero for burning as it cuts off the language options and just leaves default Italian. I tried to edit with IFOedit but nothing works - it cuts them off.

1) What is the Title and Region of the original DVD?
2) Rip it with DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 in "File" mode (select "ALL" files, NOT "movie" files)
3) Use NERO in "DVD-Video" mode (place ALL DVD-related files [.IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs] into NERO's RED "VIDEO_TS" folder - and burn

Thank you!
I do not know how to detrmine the original Title and region but I bought in Europe and it is PAL.
My DVD player does not read it. More than that, the default language is Italian. That is the reason why I am going through the hassle.
I will try the way you suggest and hopefully it works. Thanks again.
Hi, setarip_old,
Sorry but I did not get it.
- “"DVD-Video" mode” – Do you mean Nero Express or Nero Make Your Own DVD-video (Nero Vision)?
- I could not find RED "VIDEO_TS" folder in any of the two.
Nero Vision has “Add Video Files” folder and Nero Express has “DVD-video files”.
Please clarify. Thanks!

I do not know how to detrmine the original TitleAre you pulling my leg? Are you saying you purchased a DVD without knowing what it is?
The title of the DVD is printed on the label and the packaging!
My previous post refers to NERO Burning ROM - the primary program in the NERO package...

Sorry!
My idea was that you were talking about a technical feature. It is "Papillon" with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Thanks!

Hi, setarip_old,
I tried the way you advised. I put all of them into the red VIDEO_TS (Nero) and burnt them with built-in image burner to the hard drive. Once I started playing back the movie, I saw the same chapter structure and it was again frozen when Chapter 13 started.
I tried to work on the language options so that I could burn it with Nero Vision that results in no freezing but as a result I’ve got a copy that runs without freezing but Titles 1 and 6, 7 are in English and Titles 2, 3 4, 5 are in Italian.
As for the language options I changed them as advised here http://home.arcor.de/josef.braunstein/dummy/dummies.htm
but it did not work for this particular DVD. So, I tried to set “2” in the SetSTN instead of "1" and got what I described above: some Titles in English and some in Italian.
I do not know what would be easier for a person without experience like myself: to learn PGCEdit and work with it or to continue trying to set English as the default.
Any ideas would be highly appreciated.
