Weird vertical lines, pattern in dv playback & capture

Hello,
a few days ago I started having a weird problem that seems to affect every dv avi on my hard drive and more so the newly captured ones. There are static vertical lines going through the video about every 50 pixels horizontally. It looks like a pattern overlaying the video. It doesn't move which makes it very obvious when watching the video but not so much when looking at a still frame. So, I have uploaded a small 22mb dv avi video for your viewing. I have sent that video to 2 of my friends. One has a CRT monitor and couldn't see the lines until he played around with the brightness and contrast in Windows media player and put the video in Full Screen. The other one has and LCD(like me) and it was VERY obvious to him. To me, the lines seem to appear mostly in the blue channel.

This video was shot with a Sony VX2100, captured with scenalyzerLive with Type2 DV-avi file(premiere etc) mode.

I have the panasonic dv codec installed.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I'm going crazy and really do not feel like formatting my computer...

It's a known problem of the Panasonic codec. Use Cedocida instead.

so, how do I resolve this? I tried getting rid of the codec and the problem is still there. I deleted the pana.inf & pdvcodec from the system32 and deleted the keys in the regedit. I just installed the cedocica and am still getting the same problem on new captures and old videos.

I have Cedocida installed. I loaded your AVI and I do not see any vertical lines on my LCD monitor. Make sure that the Cedocida codec has priority on your system.

The issue with the Panasonic codec was that vertical lines appeared when a Panasonic-encoded AVI was reencoded again with Panasonic.

ok, cool. at least I know that my video is fine. must be a codec problem.

how to I prioritize Cedocida? I got Directshow Filter Manager but I cannot see it there..

Hi again. So...I managed to find it. It is in the "video compressor" section only. I have many codecs in that section but they are all greyed out and I can't prioritize them.

In my "Directshow Filters" tab, as far as DV codecs go, I have only the microsoft one(I think) and Sony's. Neither does a better job...I'm assuming maybe it's because it's still using Windows' dv compressor(which might be causing me the problem...).

Any ideas?

cedocida isn't a dshow codec (alas.. it'd be a handy replacement in dog slow programs like premiere - it could speed things up some). it's video-for-windows.

so open the DV file up in virtualdub and you'll see it kick in :)

i think there's a way to use a vfw codec as your directshow DV codec, but i might have dreamt it. either way, ffdshow also has a good DV decompressor built in which you could use.

Unfortunatly that doesn't seem to work either. Although it is somewhat better, the video is still blocky. I suspect my graphic card drivers might be screwed or something. What I'm noticing is...I think the dv video was just being "displayed" at half the resolution and then somehow stretched to 720X480, without any smoothing.

It's very weird.. Now my WMP is only playing the video at half rez. Can't fix it...sigh..

My graphic card is a GeForce 6800.

hey, me again.
So, I managed to force Cedocida to be the playing codec.

According to Gspot:
(S) --> AVI Splitter --> [VFW: Cedocida DV codec (SD format) v0.1.6] --> (R)

One small problem...the video plays interlaced in WMP(I see the horizontal lines).

That's what you should expect when watching interlaced video on a progressive device (PC monitor).
