Some time ago, when talking about HQDering, Didée told me the following:

...
aliasing in HQDering (mostly) isn't caused by the filtering, but by the masking process ... the masking tries to not cover the very edge itself, resulting in a mask that is aliased at edge boundaries, so there's a hard cut between "processed" and "not-processed" at the edge borders. That's why HQDering may cause aliasing.

I'd like to know if someone could take a look at HQDering and try to improve the masking process and introduce a supersampling step so as to prevent the aliasing.

Yeah, HQDering with softmasking would be nice!

Or a standalone version of IIPs deringing... >.>

Bye

So no one is interested? :(

Some things have to be left over to the students, or they'll have nothing to study. ;)

BTW, hard/soft masking probably is only a part of the problem. With Deen as default smoother, "threshold desease" could be another one.

What is "threshold disease" (:p) and why could it be a part of the problem?
