I've never burned dual/double layer discs before, although I know that (MCC) DVD+R DL are just peachy.

But I have some DVD-R DL 4x discs (they should be +R DL, it was a mistake), and I vaguely recall reading that they weren't very good as far as standalone compatibility is concerned?

They would be burned with a Pioneer DVR-110D so I'd think that part is ok.

Do they need to be exchanged?

Thanks :)

If you can exchange them, I'd suggest you do so...

Thanks for the reply.

Could you - or someone else - be a tad more expansive?

As has been posted at these and other forums, DL DVD-Rs are presently VERY unreliable - and for technical reasons, problematic regarding layerbreak locations.

On the other hand, presently, Verbatim DL DVD+Rs appear to be the only consistently reliable DL media...

I agree with setarip. DL DVD-Rs should be avoided whenever possible. However, you can burn them with PgcEdit. It's a little bit more difficult than burning a DL+R. Especially, you have to fill in the exact number of sectors in L0 in the burn setup dialog, or you will make a coaster. Also, since it is necessary to fill the first layer completely with data, it takes longer to write the ISO and to burn, and there will be sensible data on the outer edge of the DVD, which is especially subject to scratches and damages. You have been warned!

Thanks for the replies.

Wow it sounds like these discs really suck.

If I don't exchange them I probably just won't use them at all.
