If i understand well it's a tool to convert avi files to mpeg files, right?
I've got some questions:
1)can it convert only avi files or also an entire dvd?
2)can it process only the video part or also the audio one?
3) just to know, what are the differences with some other apps like DVD Rebuilder or DVD2SVCD?

thanks for submitting this!

a tool to convert avi files to mpeg files, right?
This tool generates avisynth-scripts and encodes this scripts with HCBatch or CCE. You can cut scenes and you can use the transall plugin for avisynth to make transitions between scenes. every scene can have its own filterchain (avisynth-script).
can it convert only avi files or also an entire dvd?
the source can be a video for AVISource, DirectShowSource or MPEG2Source
can it process only the video part or also the audio one?
it can process only the video part AND also video together with audio. it uses WAVSource and the NicAudio plugin for Avisynth. AVISource and DirectShowSource can have audio, too.
what are the differences with some other apps like DVD Rebuilder or DVD2SVCD?
AVStoMPEG is not intended for DVD recoding but you can use it for this, too. I made this tool because i wanted to encode some videos from my miniDV camcorder to MPEG-2. i used avisynth to get a decent image quality in my videos. but i hate it to write those avisynth-scripts which contain sometimes plugin functions that have 20 or more parameters. so i decided to make a GUI for avisynth with all the features i needed: avisynth support for denoising, sharpening... videos, scenes cutting, scene transitions (with TransAll), titles (with SubtitleEx) and encoding with CCE or HCBatch.

Hi,

I am really interesting in testing out the program, as it looks like something that would be very helpful, but I think the download is corrupt. It wants to save as extension .7z and even if you change the extension to .zip (which I assume is archive format) it will not open.

Cheers, Steve

I think most people (including me) are a little afraid to try this tool because it requires sooooo many other programs

NormanBates
13th May 2006, 03:30
Hi!
t requires sooooo many other programs
Yes I know, it's a long list!
AVStoMPEG is a tool to create Avisynth-Scripts. It provides a GUI for all the Avisynth-Plugins mentioned in my first post.
In fact you do not need AVSEdit, you can view the created Avisynth-Script with Notpad, too. You also do not need DGIndex. The AVStoMPEG GUI provides just a button to start DGIndex, nothing else. If you don't need MPEG2Source or DGIndex, then you may need not to install DGIndex. VirtualDub is only used to have a video preview. AVStoMPEG has a built-in preview function, too (since a few months). So you do not need to have VirtualDub. It is supported from AVStoMPEG because it starts faster than the built-in preview, so it could be that VirtualDub may be a better option to watch the preview for some people.

By the way...
here is the new version :-)

Ok, I was just going to do a "simple" test....

Open an ".avi" file and select ChangeFPS(29.97)

However, I cannot see ChangeFPS, to save my life and when I click "View current Avisynth script", I get an error of:

"The UNC path should be of the form \\server\share"

Also there is some really strange error somewhere, because with only select AVI source, and then compare original with new, they're different???? is this a colorspace issue?

The old is darker and there are some detail differences (guess it is colorspace, wow never saw it different before!)

Thanks

NormanBates

@donnyj:

Open an ".avi" file and select ChangeFPS(29.97)
Generally you should use AVISource to open *.avi files.

I cannot see ChangeFPS
Unfortunately I don't have a Video with variable Framerate, so I can't check this but the created script seems to be ok.

The UNC path should be of the form \\server\share
I assume your Computer is in a network?
I will try to fix this.

Also there is some really strange error somewhere, because with only select AVI source, and then compare original with new, they're different???? is this a colorspace issue?

The old is darker

This is strange!
To compare the original video with the new video AVStoMPEG creates a script "avisynthscript_original.avs" in your Avisynth-Script Folder. This script contains only a instruction to load the Source and nothing else. It could look like this:

# This Script is generated by AVStoCCE
AVISource("C:\Media\NVECapture.avi", false, "YUY2")

So there are no different colorspaces.

I was using AVISource, sorry for not specifying that.

Unfortunately I don't have a Video with variable Framerate, so I can't check this but the created script seems to be ok.

It's not a variable rate file, just wrong framerate..., after beating myself up with other methods, just letting avisynth fix the framerate is MUCH easier for me.

I assume your Computer is in a network?
I will try to fix this.

Yes, I wasn't aware that it detected that, kind of cool :)

Yes, it was weird, DEFINATE brightness/contrast levels between the two windows (should have taken a screenshot)

New Version available:

Filter Updates:
-HDRAGC: now v.1.8.1
-FFT3DGPU: now v.0.6.2.9

Presets will now be saved in another Registry Subtree:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/AVStoMPEG_v.8.xxxxxx

Until now this was:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/AVStoCCE

You can use your existing Preset only with older versions, not with this version. :-(
But you can use older versions of AVStoMPEG together with the this version.

You can load your old Project, but all Zones and Transition-Zones will be "not assigned".

From NEXT version on you can convert your old Presets (from THIS version on) so they will work in future versions, too. :-)
