Subtitles don't work with anamorphic encoding?

Has anyone tried to add srt subtitles to an xvid video that has been encoded in anamorphic format yet? Were they able to get the subtitles working at all?

I tested the same subtitles inside a non-anamorphic video and it works fine but everytime I add it into an anamorphic video and have windows media player run it, there is a blank black screen and the progress indicator does not even move.

I asked this question before in the subtitles category of this forum but no one answered the question; I find that a bit odd as I would have thought there was a good chance somebody else would probably have tried to do what I did already.

I'd suggest using MPC. I just tested and everything else (WMP (dvobsub and ffdshow) & mplayer) works fine here. Just that they rendered the subs before resizing, instead of afterwards.

I tried MPC and it still seems to be doing that. Are there certain settings I should have to get it working?

It seems that the vertical padding settings was the cause of the problem. I changed it to "original height" and everything works correctly now.
