pictures to disk.

Hi,Can anybody help me with a small problem please.
I have many pictures of family in a file and recently decided to see if I can put them on disk (CD) it worked great,now I can only get approx 10 pics per disk,so is there a way to shrink photos (a bit like MP3's) to get more pics on the disks.

Just about any "Paint" or "Graphics" program should provide you with the ability to compress and/or reduce the resolution of your images.

What format are they in?

I use the queen of graphics programs, Paint ;).

I go to > Image > Stretch / Skew and change the horizontal and vertical percentages to something like 50% for both. This makes the pictures smaller tho'. You can save as gif, jpg, tiff, or png. JPGs tend to be rather small.

Would like to hear from those who know of other good imaging programs that don't cost. thx!

Use batch processing in IrfanView to resize and save.

I reccomend Interactive JPEG Optimizer, a freeware program that is intended specifically to control JPEG compression and quality. Absolutely fantastic results.

Ouch, iirc paint resizes without interpolation aka. nearest-neighbor resizing... :s

The filesize is reduced because you downsize the image, not because you dont use interpolation! Downsizing to 50% with something like lanczos resampling will result in much better quality (less jaggy edges) and the resulting filesize will be still the same as without interpolation (for png probably slightly bigger, for jpeg probably slightly smaller).

EDIT: Seems paint uses different resampling methods for up/down-sizing! Something close to nearest-neighbor for upsizing and something close to bicubic for downsizing... ms suckage, lol!

or are you using floppy discs? :)
