Hello, and welcome to Doom9's forum. Your question appears to be better suited to our DV forum, so I am moving the thread there.

How did you connect your camcorder to your laptop? Firewire?

I had the reverse problem attempting to capture footage (via FireWire) recorded on an NTSC mini-DV camcorder from my Sony PAL DCR-PC115E. I use Ulead VideoSudio 9 and when I tried to capture in the normal manner (i.e. playback activated by the Capture function) I just got nonsense. Spent a small fortune getting the tapes transcoded professionally (and badly) until I discovered a simple neat trick - initiate playback before going into Capture mode. This appears to over-ride whatever signal the camcorder normally communicates to the capture software that identifies it as a PAL machine. Once the software recognizes the DV on tape as NTSC it is then possible to queue the tape in the normal manner using the remote control functions. Theoretically this should work for the reverse situation (PAL recorded tape on an NTSC camcorder) but I'm not sure if Premiere or other capture software can be tricked in this way. Why not give it a go?
