Hi,
I have some AC3 files which I have converted from MP3 songs in the thought of listening them in my 5.1 DVD Player system. They are playing fine through all the channels in my computer which has a 5.1 sound card and speakers. But when I want to burn a CD/DVD with Nero, Its not accepting the files with ac3 extension. I even have to the ac3 plugin for Nero. I have created those ac3 files using BeSweet. Can anybody help by providing any methods (freeware) to burn those ac3 files and I can enjoy them in my DVD Player. My DVD player can play MP3/JPEG/VCD/SVCD/DVD+-RW.
Thanks in advance.

You need to head over to the AUDIO forum and look at the sticky at the top of the page "Stereo Conversion Guide".
Ultimately, you will need to convert to multi-channel wave files to accomplish what you are trying to do. It's all explained in the guides, but it will seem overwhelming at first.
Have fun :D

But when I want to burn a CD/DVD with Nero, Its not accepting the files with ac3 extension. You are likely using the wrong format in NERO.
Select "UDF/ISO" mode and simply copy your .AC3 files as a "Data DVD" or "Data CD" (depending on which you're using). if you're standalone DVD player is caapble of playing audio-only .AC3 files, you should be home free...

thanx setarip_old, but my dvd player is not playing those files. its not showing any files. also, as SallyDog told i tried in the audio encoding section, but thats all about how to convert from one stream into another format. but i already have ac3 files. all i wanted is to burn them in cd/dvd and play them in my dvd player. the nero digital show time is playing the songs but i dont know why i can't burn those files even though i have ac3 plugin (nxMyac3.dll) in the plugins directory. any help will be appreciated. thank you.

You might want to read the following thread, regarding an earlier project of mine. Simply substitute your .AC3 files for my .WAV files:

OK, I'm confused. You said in your first post that your standalone will play MP3 files and that your goal, after converting the files to AC3, was to play them on your standalone. Assuming the MP3 files were 2 channel to begin with, then I also assume the AC3 files are 2 channel. In other words, why not just copy the MP3 files to a CD and be done with it.
On the other hand, if your intent is to create "5.1" AC3 files for playback on your standalone, then I refer back to my original post - you need to create multi-channel wave files from the MP3's first
