View Full Version : ImgBurn Error with Data Zone Start...next step?

I am a new user of ImgBurn and need some help with next steps. Let me first say that I am a long time user of DVDD so I am familiar with the interface and settings.
I have an .ISO/.MDS combination that I created using DVDD and want to simply burn using ImgBurn on a DVD+R DL. When I start the burn I get a pop-up warning that states the following:
Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_01)
This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.
None of the cells meet the 'DVD-Video specification' criteria for a potential layer break position.
Do you want to continue anyway?
Well...I'm not the type into continuing without understanding everything. Where did I go wrong? I thought the layer break info was in the .MDS file but I am now thinking that the original was a PTP and the target is an OTP so I need to make some changes but I don't know what/where.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been reading for an hour or so already so if I've missed a thread that explains please just point me to it.
TIA

Did you open the image for burning with the .MDS file? The .MDS contains the layer break info and is what you would want to load into ImgBurn instead of the .ISO file.

Yes, I opened the .MDS and not the .IFO. Apparently the source disk was a PTP disk and the target is an OTP disc (i.e. DVD-ROM versus DVD+R DL) and because of this the sector break needs to be altered slightly to account for the difference in track paths. Something I just learned last night:).
I also posted to ImgBurn Forum and LightningUK replied with the need for me to rebuild the .ISO using PgcEdit. I don't know how to do this so I'm off to learn another new trick.
Thanks for the assistance.

Apparently the source disk was a PTP disk and the target is an OTP disc (i.e. DVD-ROM versus DVD+R DL) and because of this the sector break needs to be altered slightly to account for the difference in track paths. There must be an additional reason (some editing that you've done, etc) for the problem, since this difference ("PTP" versus "OTP") is standard when backing up virtually ANY commercial, pressed DVD - and IMGBurn is typically able to properly set a layer break...

I made the original .ISO with AnyDVD/DVDD combo and had check marks beside all of the 'Remove PUOP's' etc.
Other than that...no changes or editing done.
Here is the thread from LightningUK where he suggested I use PgcEdit:

Now I just have to *choke* throw away *choke* about 20 Ritek DVD +R DL's because so far only 1 of 7 have worked and I am tired of wasting time.

Now I just have to *choke* throw away *choke* about 20 Ritek DVD +R DL'sBefore doing that - Are you sure that your burner's firmware is up to date?

I just double checked that. I have a Plextor PX-716A running firmware version 1.09 directly from Plextor's site.
I'm stubborn, I'm trying another one right now just to see if I can find a good one or two out of the bunch.
I'm open to any other suggestions that you may have. Keep 'em coming...

Burn at the lowest rate possible (presumably 2.4X)...
Spock

Yes, I'm burning at 2.4x even though ImgBurn reports that the media is 2.4x and 4x capable.
Setarip_old, I think you are on to something with your comment 'There must be an additional reason (some editing that you've done, etc) for the problem, since this difference ("PTP" versus "OTP") is standard when backing up virtually ANY commercial, pressed DVD - and IMGBurn is typically able to properly set a layer break... ' because I went into ImgBurn and checked for the layer break position for each of three different .ISO's I created using the exact same method. The first one gives the error while numbers 2 and 3 do not. The second two have layer break information present, while the first one doesn't have it until after I recreate the .ISO in PgcEdit. I sure would like to understand this...
Tried another Ritek...got another coaster. This one failed during the lead in, between sectors 32 and 63 and all subsequent retries failed as well.

checked for the layer break position for each of three different .ISO's I created using the exact same method. The first one gives the error(Please do not misunderstand the nature of or reason for my question) - Is this "first" one a 1:1 copy of a legitimate, commercial, pressed DVD? If so, what is the Title and Region of the DVD?

Yes, this is the first one of a legit commercial pressed DVD that I own. I backup for car and travel purposes (I've scratched and lost too many to continue taking originals with me). When I say first, second and third I am referring to Stargate SG1 Season 1 Volumes 1, 2 and 3. All are region 1.
So Vol. 1 gives the error while 2 and 3 do not.

Strange indeed...

I've done about 50+ dl's with no coasters by using dvdd in file mode and then handing off to pgcedit. I can't see any advantage to ripping to an iso. Using ritek is also a ? mark
I would also try not to max out the capacity on the dl
