Help: Diamond PVR-600 not capturing

Hi. I have some strange problem with my Diamond PVR-600 external USB TV tuner (hardware encoding).

It was working fine on the first PC, I hooked it up to, which was running Win2k/SP4, .Net 1.1/2.0 and DX9c (this machine has been running for several years now and I installed/unistalled a myriad other things over the years). It captured video/tv under GB-PCR and BeyondTV w/o problem.

But this was only a test installation and I moved it to a small server PC (supposed to function as a little PVR). This server was recently set up also with Win2k/SP4, .Net 1.1/2.0, DX9c and WMP9. When I hook up the PVR600, the driver installs fine (and reports "working fine" in the device manager), but its status light, that is usually always green on the other machine, changes from green to red as soon as the driver is loaded. At the same time it's possible to watch live TV with a number of programs, but I can't capture anything in e.g. GB-PVR. Interestingly, the same happenss with a laptop I just got and that has a similar software setup. Also, when I try to capture in VirtualDub, the PVR-600 is found as capture device, but reported as being in use! Thus, capturing doesn't work.

Seems like I'm missing a crucial dll or something similar - but I have no idea where to begin to look. Sorry for the lengthy post, but I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks! - Se

Have you switched it back to the original PC, to make certain that your Diamond PVR-600 external USB TV tuner is still functioning properly?

Yep! I can switch it back and force between the old and the new machine. On the old one it's working on the new one it's not. I also tried to plug in an external power supply in case the USB ports on the new machine don't provide enough juice also without sucess.

Sounds like you may be lacking a "WDM Capture Driver"...

If I look in the device manager under "Legacy Video Capture Devices" there is a "Video for Windows Capture Driver (Win32)" installed. Is this what you are referring to? Should this be something more up to date?

I'd suggest you do a Googlesearch for (as one line) "Diamond PVR 600" and "WDM Capture Driver" (include the quotation marks")

Actually, the driver for the PVR600, that shows up in the device manager is the "Diamond XtremeTV PVR600 USB WDM Encoder" (when I checked previously, I vnc'ed into the server from work and the PVR600 wasn't hooked up). I guess, that's what you were looking for. So, it doesn't seem to be an issue of a missing capture driver.

I'm having the exact same problem. Green light stays on until drivers are installed then turns red.
I thought at first something was wrong with the unit.
It's impossible to get any info from Diamond.com. What a horse poop company.

Likewise I am having the same problem also. Light goes green until driver loads and then red...at first I assumed it was normal but am now questioning it. I haven't been able to find any literature regarding the light status. I can watch live TV fine but have been unable to record it as well. I only purchased the unit 1 day ago and am wondering if I should return it and look for a different brand (like ATI or Plextor). Anyone have any ideas as to whether to keep working with it or return it?
