Hi, all,
I have managed to get rip the sound from my DVD - a live recording - and converted it into a wav file. However, I have finished up with one long track - 96 mins long!!
Is there a (simple) program I can use which will enable me to edit the wav file and separate it back into individual tracks where a new song begins/ends, please?
I would like to play my DVD on my car's cd player, but would like the option to skip or repeat individual songs/tracks since it doesn't have the option to search.
Thanks in advance,
V

Audacity can edit / split wavs. Though I'm not sure if you even need to, are you going to burn a Audio-CD or some kind of DVD? If its the first you can burn from the single wav, yet have several tracks so you can skip them. You just need to create a cue sheet with the approriate times etc.

Hi, thanks for such a fast reply. Yes, I want to split/edit a single wav file to make it into several files i.e. the tracks I've managed to extract from the DVD. Unfortunately, the program I used to extract the DVD's audio simply took ALL the audio and made it into 1 single track/file, and it's this I want to make/re-make into individual tracks as on the DVD. I will then make this into an ordinary audio cd I can play in my car. Is this the cue sheet you mentioned, communist? Will Audacity be powerful enough for me to do this, please?
I hope my reply is understandable, I obviously didn't make a very good job the first time round, lol. English should be my 3rd language, not first!!

Yes splitting wav files shouldn be much of a problem for Audacity. If you prefer the cue sheet method check this wikipedia article:

I have also found another program that allows you to take the music from a DVD and it manages to keep the chapters as on the original DVD - I decided to change the format to mp3 as this created a smaller file which would fit onto a CD. The wav file was too big to get onto a CD and I didn't want to lose any tracks. The program I used was Xilisoft DVD Audio Ripper and was quite easy to use. I'll still have a go with Audacity when I get the chance.
Hope this helps anyone else with similar problems.
Cheers, V
