View Full Version : Best Seetings for OnTheFly Encoding from Capture?

Hi guys.
it has been long time since I had visited here but here I am.
anyway I got a Q for you since You are the experts in this matter.
I have been using KOEPI's XviD v1.1 file for encoding for a while and everything is really good and I am very happy on the resualts.

but Now I came up with a new project and and I got few questions to ask you guys since I think my seetings are not suitable for the new project any more.
up untill 2day I had a large VOB file that I encoded and that was gr8, but now my new project is Encoding On the fly a Capture stream.
now I know that there is a diffierent between encoding a File to Encoding On the fly capture stream, since when encoding a file the encoder/codec can look ahead and see and know the next frame and so on and base the encoding by it.
while on the fly capture encoding the codec/encoder can never know what will be the next frame (since it's a live stream).

my capture stream is very low resolution and the stream quality is low, but that has nothing to do with the coder but
the stream it self.
we are talking about a resolution of somthing like 276x204 and low quality and 20fps, so I need to base my settings that will give me the maximum quality or in other words the minimum quality lose.
in the other hand I don't want and go crasy with file size , so please keep it in mind.

what would be the Setting that you "recommend" me using for Quality for an On-the-Fly encoding of a stream capture material.

here are my settings I am using now and it works gr8 as far as speed and there are no lags , I just don't know if I should be using them or I am better off with a different settings since it's live encoding.
the captured stream material is 20fps (about 276x204).
my encoing speed is about 120FPS (on the settings I am using now )so I should be fine.

obviously this is not a regular Question since we are talking on the fly encoding,which probebly needed different settings then Normal, so I think the question in the way is ok and not Violating the Rules.
but I will respect the Rules of the forum.
I am changing my question.

what would be the "setting" that you recommend me using for my Project (On-The-Fly Encodind of Streamed Capture)?

Obviously you don't respect the forum rules because you've just violated rule 10 as well, sending me a PM in which you ask me to help you with your problem. That wouldn't have been necessary as this is the XviD forum and as one of its moderators I tend to have a look at any new thread posted (most of the time anyway) .

So I'm gonna ignore it and just answer your question as I would have done without you sending me a PM.

Your settings are fine. If your CPU is fast enough, keep VHQ level and ME search precision as they are. If you experience performance problems lower VHQ until it's fast enough for you, but not lower than '1'.

I would say bump VHQ up a bit, it's XviD's best feature IMO :)

Usually VHQ1 is a good starting point for live.

I would also reccommend bumping your quant up to 3. 4 always looks questionable to me...

what do you mean bumping VHQ up a bit?
you mean the VHQ = 4 - Wide search? if so I already use it as you can see in my Links.
it will be very helpfull if you can go over the links/Pics and see my settings and reccomend me if somthing need to be changed.
