Two Drives, Two Regions?

I was wondering (this should be an easy one),
if I set the pc internal DVD RW to a specific region (say 1), and I buy an external DVD RW and I set it to another specific region (say 2),
will the pc be able to manage both the internal and external devices?

In other words, is this a solution to read and write discs from 2 different regions, simply using two different devices, but only one pc plugged to both?

Yes that would work.
It would be even easier if you just patched them to be region free - if the need be. The drives I had so far could be patched very easily without the need to flash firmware etc., however if you dont need a region free drive and dont want to tamper with it (since you loose warranty) installing 2 drives will do it aswell for 2 regions that is :)

I have no clue what "patching" is exactly.
I have checked the firmware database and there is no software developed for my damn matshita.
So, I thought that 100 dollars more won't be too much, if I just can get to avoid all the frustration I've been through!

Oh yes.
This is the web site where I read there are no chances for a firmware (yet) for my matshita.
I also learned that matshita is a challenging one. DVD Region + CSS Free and similar software won't work with it. And also DVDFab Express is not able to remove protections from my discs while copying.
Oh well, I guess sooner or later we'll stop wasting energies developing firmware and eventually take these manifacturers to court ;)

It's a pity that you have to buy two drives just to play your dvd's, tho'.

You could always get one that can definitely be flashed and just replace your current one with that (use the current for direct burning or second drive or just give it to someone).

Or you can just get DVD43 and not have to deal with picky dvd drives. =p

All these ideas are pretty good.
But my current dvd player is wrapped into my laptop, so I can't remove or replace it.
