I do little test with 4 denoising filters(Convolution, frfun3, Degrain median and fft3d). Source is VHS, capture in DV avi than encoded to mpeg2 720x576, 25fps, 6000 bitrate with CCE.

1. Original source

2.Convolution 3d filter, vhsBQ quality (1, 32, 128, 16, 64, 10, 0).

2.1 Convolution 3d filter, something between movieLQ and vhsBQ quality (1, 32, 128, 8, 32, 10, 0)

3. frfun3 filter, frfun3b(S=3,T=3) parametar.

4. Degrain median filter, 2x (limitY=5,limitUV=7,mode=0) parametars

5. FFT3D filter, FFT3DFilter(sigma=3) parametar

Very hard to see any difference. Use a souce with more noise.

Your source appears to have compression artifacts more than general noise.

I agree .. use a source with more detail.

However I tried to spot a difference between the shots shown here and from what I can tell Convolution does a worse job than the other filters.

Try to do another comparision between frfun3, Degrain median and fft3d
