where's the audio?

I've finally filled an entire tape so i went straight to my pc to convert the video to dvd. I used the guides on this site and other various ones found via google. I have tried DVIO and it got the video but no sound. I tried WinDVD, same thing one gib video file, no sound. If i spilt it up so it reoords many smaller files of video, those have the audio. Why are these programs not getting the audio from my video files?

first of all welcome to the forum!

How did you verify that your files had no sound? Which file system did you use (FAT32, NTFS, ...)?

I'll try and dumb this all down to my level. I hooked up my JVC camcorder to my laptop with a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable, i then followed the instructions found here http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dv/guide.html.

If you would like I can run the file i get through gspot, perchance that'll give you more info?

Well, that's my guide.

Maybe the gspot information will help; just post it - that doesn't hurt :) I'd like to know whether you deal with type-1 or type-2 DV. I believe gspot will show that.

To examine the file system you do the following:
- open "My Computer" or Windows Explorer
- right-click on the drive you saved your video to (e.g. C:)
- select "Properties"
The file system is listed on the "General" tab.
