why size different so much?

I have a 17 seconds long clip. I set the target bitrate to 3000 kbps, using GK0.35. Here are the size of both divx and xvid encodings:

2-pass AS@L5 Xvid:1.1: 4,835,328 bytes
3-pass insane mode Divx 6.2.1: 6,615,040 bytes

Strange enogh, the Xvid avi has a much better quality than the Divx avi, although it has smaller file size and much shorter encoding time, 2min 59 sec vs. 13min 32.

17 seconds times 3000kbps (http://www.google.com.au/search?q=17%20seconds%20times%203000%20kbps%20in%20bytes) is 6528000 bytes....

Maybe it was too short, and divx had the advantage of third pass to correct for it.

You're probably saturating the matrix; did you use h.263 or mpeg? Mpeg goes a lot higher than h.263. (You really need a custom matrix for 3mbps though.)

I used 3000 kbps to archive home videos at 30 fps. For both encodings, the default MPEG matrix was used. Are there any suitable custom matrixes recommended?

Didée's 6of9 (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=751182&postcount=5), or Sharktooth's hr or uhr (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=83125). Soulhunter's are also often recommended, but since they're numbered I can never keep them straight. ^^;;

Didée also recommends doing 1st pass at q3 with high bitrates like this, apparently it ensures a better ratecontrol.

Then why don't you just encode a sample clip using the CQM and see if it plays on your standalone?

Also if your SAP has a MTK chipset, you can try Celtic_Druid Profiles, included in his builds, here: http://celticdruid.no-ip.com/xvid/
Basically it will block options not compatible with the MTK chipsets.

As you are using quite a high bitrate, the standard MTK PAL/NTSC may chop high bitrate too much (limited to 4000) but is more compatible. If accepted by your SAP the MTK 6000 could be better :)

But depending on the SAP (even some MTK's) it has been reported that the only full compatible profile was Home theatre with H263/MPEG.

I have a Peekton with a 1389FE and the MTK's profiles plays perfectly, but I usually encode at 1000 to 1500 kbp/s, not higher.
