Windows Media Player 10...Cannot Play WMV HD Trailers Sound Fully

I formatted my computer recently, and thus I had to download and install the latest version of WMP (10). But that version, nor 9 can play the WMVHD trailers completley. The video works, the music works, but the guy's voice is nonexistent. I can play that perfectly fine in VLC, Nero Showtime, and RealPlayer. I used MediaInfo and it says that there are 6 channels in that movie. Could that have something to do with the problem? Am I missing a codec or something? The only thing wrong with the movie is that I can't hear the guy's voice...

I have prefer AC3 filter selected, and use DirectShow for audio renderer. Is that what you're talking about?

Click on the "Main" tab - The first word you'll see (at least, in v.1.02a test8) under the word "Main" is "Output"...

By the way it worked before I formatted my computer and reinstalled windows, and back then I didn't have AC3 filter installed

Simply try selecting the various "Speakers" selections - regardless of your actual setup...

i uninstalled AC3 filter and it still didnt work...doesnt that mean that AC3's config doesnt have an effect on the problem

Play the trailer under WMP (I have WMP9):

Tools>>Options>>DVD>>Advanced

(Don't ask me what the logic is regarding the flow through the "DVD" tab)...

Then I can only surmise that you are somehow overriding the use of the AC3 Filter by your use of FFDShow (and it would be the entire AC3 filter dialog box that would show up)...

WMV-HD trailers don't use AC3 at all. They use WMA Pro.

Make sure your system is configured for 5.1 output in Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Speaker Settings --> Advanced. If your sound drivers come with their own control panel, make sure 5.1 is selected there too.

Good try setarip, I have to thank you for that, but Zambelli's solution worked. I dunno why its set to 5.1 speakers, even though I have 2 speakers and a subwoofer

It's very simple. The WMA decoder queries the system to find out how many speakers are available. If less speakers are available than channels are present in the WMA audio stream, the channels are mixed down.

It may be the sound card (it has to support 24 bit output, else the video gets mixed down to stereo).
Old versions of Foobar that don't use Windows WMA library (foobar2k 0.83) and newer versions of Winamp will allegedly play back 6 channels, maybe useful for converting 6-channel Windows audio without any hardware support.
