I am trying to create a dvd-a from dts. I am using DVD Audio Solo to create the dvd-a. I want to create a dvd-a of the dts soundtrack from Saving Private Ryan. Here is what I have done so far:
Ripped vob's with DVD Decrypter
Extracted dts from vob with vobrator
transcoded dts into 6 wav's with tranzcode
I tried using belight to mux these into a 6ch wav but I get a wav of 0 bytes. I don't know why it won't work. The whole channel mapping thing confuses me so maybe that is where I am going wrong. I am using belight 22. I click on the pictures on the six channels to load the corresponding wav's but it doesn't work.
I know Solo can accept separate wavs but with 20+ chapters x 6 wavs each I would never be able to do it.
I came across this thread which seems like it is what I need ( dts to single 6ch wav) using Foobar2k but I don't understand all the settings I would need. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=92023&highlight=hypercube
also this thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=84915
How about Hypercube?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi trenz,
this is what you need:
-foobar2000 0.8.3 including foo_dts plugin v.0.1.3 (I think that was the last version)
-Latest BeLight + BeSweet
Transcode your dts to a 6ch WAVE (PCM) file using foobar.
Mapping should be ok so if your DVD-Audio authoring tool can cope with a single 6channel WAVE you're pretty much done.
If the DVD-A application requires six Mono WAVEs as input just split your 6ch WAVE with BeLight. This procedure might also be necessary if you aim for MLP.

Thank you so much for responding. I had the foobar with plugin you mentioned (downloaded the "special" package as I think it was called), but I just was a little confused with foobar. There are so many items under the preferences tab. I loaded all my dts files, highlighted them all, right click, convert, run conversion, wav (pcm-fixed point), chose my directory and waited. YEAH single 6ch wavs for each dts track I loaded. AWESOME. I am using DVD Audio Solo which does accept single 6ch wavs so I am gonna make a disc tomorrow and check it out.
2 last questions:
1)what is the difference between pcm fixed point and pcm 32 bit floating point
2) in using vobrator I can't find a way to extract the dts from the vob's in a batch. I have to do each one separately which is a pain. In my example above Private Ryan had 21 vob's (I like to rip with separating by chapter) so you can see why I would like some kind of batch process for this. Am I missing something in vobrator or can you recommend a program that will do this. I know there is a program called DVD Audio Extractor which I think would do this but to order it you have to give address, phone # etc. I don't want to do this for a ripping program and the trial I had ran out.
Thanks again for your help

1. fixed point is 16bit. floating point is higher precision.
2. demux the the entire dts file with dvd decrypter.

ok. I demuxed with DVDD and set file splitting to none, resulting in one vob. Then I used vobrator to extract the dts from the vob, giving me one dts file. I then used foobar to transcode into one big 6ch wav. Not sure where to go now. The reason I extract by chapter is to keep separate tracks. If I am following you correctly I still have to split the wav into separate tracks, which would seem to take just as long as extracting the dts from vob chapter by chapter, giving me the separate 6ch wav's I am looking for.
On a related note, (editing 6ch wav's) I do currently have a 6ch wav with about 2 min of silence at the beginning. How would I use Audacity to edit this? When I open the wav it says opening WAVEX file and the 6ch are listed as left, right and 4 mono's. If I check the properties by right clicking the file then properties then summary it says sample size 16 bit but Audacity says 32 bit float. When I delete that 2 min and export as a wav it is saved as stereo WAV. I am doing something wrong. What is the difference between WAVEX and WAV. How do I keep it a 6ch wav after I delete that 2 min.
I think my head is going to explode
PLEASE HELP. I have learned very much here and just need a few more things explained so I have all the knowledge I need for my particular projects
Thanks

For future reference, you don't need vobrator.
Click on the stream processing tab in DVDD, then click enable stream processing. Select the DTS track, then select demux.
When you decrypt the dvd, it will then demux the dts track for you.
In the settings of DVDD, Tools/settings/ifo mode
you can create extra files. Including chapter files. Hopefully your program will accept them, or at the very least you can open the chapter files with notepad, take note of the chapter times, and use your program to insert the chapters as required.
Ensure that you are converting to a 16bit fixed point wav file in foobar.

I must be missing something simple. No matter what settings in DVDD (3.5.4.0) I play with I can't seem to get it to give me the dts tracks, only vob files.

I really do appreciate you trying to help but I think I might be too stupid. I have done many successful movies with DVDD and Shrink and have even started to get the hang of Bidule to do 2ch to 6ch conversions but for some reason this is stumping me.
I just tried a few more times using all different settings: split by chapter, no split. leave everything selected like in your photo, or only the dts stream selected- put in my own directory or the default video ts directory
Now I am getting vob and mv2 files, both of which are listed as type mpeg
I think I'll give it another go tomorrow. Thanks again

Got it. After looking at your photo I think it had to do with having the wrong stream highlighted as I was unchecking the streams I didn't want. However, when I tried to recreate my previous errors, I couldn't. It always came out right. Go figure. Anyway, thanks to your help I am getting exactly what I need from DVDD, saving me the time of running each chapter through vobrator.
Last question (for now)
One of the dts streams I extracted said it was dts 5ch. The other dts stream I extracted (from different disc) said 6ch.
When I converted the 5ch to a wav and checked the properties it was a 6ch wav. Any idea what's up with that. Just curious.
Thanks again

the 6th channel (LFE->stream No. 4) could be silent - thatīs possible. Your ampīs bass managment takes over control of your subwoover ;)
