View Full Version : Koepi's binary breaks MPEG1 playback

Hi,

After installing Koepi's binary I find that wmplayer and RadLight can no longer play MPEG1s. WMPlayer expands the window to fill the screen and then sits there saying "stopped", and RadLight crashes. As soon as I uninstall XVID, everything works again.

MPEG2 playback is unaffected, and VLC still plays MPEG1, presumably because it has it's decoder. When I installed XVID I told it not to register itself for playback of any fourccs.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've just done my first serious encode with XVID and it looks fantastic. I'd love to use it more, but if it's going to break MPEG1s it's going to be inconvenient.

What is it they say about sarcasm?

It's the 1.1.0 final build from Koepi's website.

Because of course 1.1.0 final is the only build of XviD Koepi ever realesed. Now that was sarcasm.

1.1.0 final isn't even the latest. Koepi released a 1.2 cvs build, which you could have easily meant.

You are seriously the first person I have ever heard of with this problem. Plenty of people with playback issues, but none ever claiming that XviD stopped MPEG1 from playing back that I have ever seen.

@davidhorman: Don't get edgy, it was a statement of fact. No-one has ever reported broken MPEG-1 playback due to an XviD installation. And this should give you something to think about.

On the other hand - if you have lost more than just MPEG-1 playback this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=109596) could be of importance for you. But it doesn't go along with your finding that uninstalling XviD re-enables MPEG-1 playback. So what you have there seems to be an oddity indeed.

Thanks for the help, and for finding that thread - nothing else seems to be affected though.

I've now got this funny feeling that this has happened before, but with the Ogg codec - I only needed it to watch one clip so I never bothered to look into it.

I think I might just re-associate MPEGs with VLC :)

vlc is great but mplayer tends to be more robust with the audio streams.

in windows i would use mpui which is a cool gui for mplayer get it here:
