Hi
I have a GeForce4 whit a Philips 7108A chip i captured a
vhs video at 720*576 pal, how do i get the right Aspect ratio 4:3 ?
I am trying to make a dvd from the vhs and i have read the guides but i dont anderstand.
If i corp to 702*576 and resize to 720*576 is that ok for a dvd 4:3 ?

What format did you capture to? MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DV.AVI, etc, etc.
And what format do you eventually want to store (re-encode) to?
Either-way, it will require some form of "aspect ratio signalling" to provide the 4:3 (or 16:9) display shape you require!

That's absolutly correct if the source is 4:3, but it's better to crop to 704x576. Only MPEG4-AVI might use these nutty (and wrong) PARs/ARs.

I captured it as avi whith huffyuv and will re-encode to mpeg-2 for dvd playback.
Thanks for the help.

If i corp to 702*576 and resize to 720*576 is that ok for a dvd 4:3 ?Never crop to 702x576 and resize to 720x576 -> generic PAR trap
Do look at your capture(s!) carefully if black borders can be seen on right and left sides (about 9px each). IF thats the case, then your 720x576 are already DVD compilant and you can process and encode it to 720x576 mpeg2 for DVD purposes.
If not such borders can be seen on your captures, then do scale these 720x576 to 704x576 and do encode it at 704x576 for DVD purposes. Or in this case do capture directly at 704x576.

You can't see that by looking at such a capture alone (black borders might be a part of the active picture itself).
But i'm pretty sure 7108 has a capture window of 53.333 µs (since 7104 has). Thus cap at 720x576 which is dvd compliant.

Thats why I said Captures.
If all analogue Caps from the specific card do result in such almost 9+9px Borders the possibility is very near that the device is sampling using 53.333 µs.
