View Full Version : Xvid anyhow?

Hello,

I received some Xvid encoded movies that I can't play.

I tried DivX Player (complaining that "FOURCC codec XVID" is missing) and Nero Media Player (can't find anything) and Windows Media Player (no comment).

This did not change after installing Xvid latest version.

What am I doing wrong?

Any helpful hand appreciated ...

We cant help you with content whoose origin is unclear - best would be to ask the one who encoded them, he certainly should know how to play them :)

Never trust a communist :D

Assuming they are real Xvid-encoded files and not something else mistakenly labeled so, you should try Media Player Classic with ffdshow, you won't need the Xvid codec anymore.

Well, I've found that DivX is incompatible with XviD. So when DivX is installed on your system, anyhow those players like Windows Media Player 10 or RealPlayer can't properly detect the file type and wrongly play XviD movie with DivX decoder no matter whether XviD is installed or not.

Solutions to this problem include:
1. play the movie with Media Player Classic
2. install ffdshow
3. uninstall DivX and leave XviD only on your system

I hope these suggestions may help you.

You can use also VLC Media Player(with it's own decoders).

MPlayer (http://rapidshare.de/files/16829869/MPUI-MPlayer-Codecs.2006-03-30.exe.html) plays everything out there :D

Have you tried to disable the option to play generic codecs? When I untick this option, the movies wont play with the divx codec but with the xvid. Its easy to confirm it, because the icon wont apear on the task bar no more.
