I wanted to open an old DivX (4CC: DIV3) file in VirtualDub, so I installed ffdshow, set it up to use libavcodec as the VfW decoder. But for some reason VirtualDub kept trying to use the Panasonic DV codec as a decompressor (it didn't work).
Also the remove option in Device Manager wouldn't uninstall the codec, so I had to manually delete it as described in this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-47714.html
The file does now open in VirtualDub, so my problem is solved. Just puzzled me why it should do this. Also maybe this post might help someone else with the same probalem in the future.
