DivX Player

I have found that the DivX player on my laptop uses about 70% CPU usage, where using Media Player Classic, Media Player 10, BS Player all use about 35% for the same movie.

Any ideas why?

Hmm I don't have the DivX Player installed but perhaps there's a post processing setting in it? If there is try to disable it and check again.

Yes there is a post processing feature in Divx. And also Divx is a fancy player, it has that sleek and slick looking interface, and thats bound to take up some sys. resources.

I tried turning off the post filtering, I could only find deblocking and it had little effect. Any other ideas?

Could be because of the graphical interface, laptops usually have less powerful video cards.

Divx player is a generally broken video player ;)
From what I remember in my testing it will usually refuse to open all videos apart from those encoded to MPEG4-ASP (ie divx,xvid,etc) and without mp3 audio. It also used its own filters (official inbuilt divx ones, which are not very efficient, and the divx decoder stopped being compatible with its own encodes a while back anyway ^_^), which probably explains why it uses so much more CPU than the other players.
