I was helping a friend clear out his house when I came across an old ATI RAGE 128 Pro capture card. (no manual, leads, drivers...)
just the card it self. My friend said I could have it if I wanted it, so I took it...

After plugging in the card, finding drivers/software online, installing everything and finally hooking up cable TV to it.... To my surprise it worked!!! (sort of)

I get video ok but no sound. On further reading online, I read that to get sound I need a lead that goes from the line-out on the capture card to line-in on my sound card.

What type of lead/cable do I need? And were can I get it? A computer Store?

I did try a lead like the ones that go from cd rom's to sound cards as that is what it looked like, but it didn't fit.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Send a mail to ATI. In my case 7 or 8 years ago I needed the original ATI-card input-cable (looks a bit like s-video). I sent a mail to ATI and they sent me a cable without paying money for it.

I'll give customer service a go.. However am not holding out to much hope for that as it does say in capital letters on the web site that customer service for this card is discontinued. That's why I wondered if it was a cable that could easily be made up or bought at a computer outlet.

Hi!

Chances are the more current cards (whether ATI or other)use the same wire connection. I'd suggest you go to a computer specialty shop. They should be readily able to provide you with what you need.

The Manual for that card is on ATI's web site at the following address:
http://www2.ati.com/manuals/radeonaiwuserguidev4.pdf
Page 26 shows 2 options for audio. Page 29 shows the special cable I believe you are referring to. There is another internal option for connecting the audio shown on page 51. This method utilizes the CD Out connector on the AIW card connecting to your sound card's CD In. If you can not get the special cable from ATI, try E-bay, quite frequently people sell spare parts they have laying around. Otherwise go the CD connector way, cables for those connections are easily found at any computer store.

BruceL: Thank You Very Much!!!! I think this will do the trick. I did go to the ATI web site and found 'A' manual, but it it is not the same one you posted I must have missed it :(. Now I have this one with the pin assignments I should be able to make my own cable. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
