View Full Version : RealAnime 4: remove RealVideo support?

I'm thinking about removing the support for RealVideo 10.

It's barely used and adds 5MB to the download, so 25% of the installer size.

What do you think?

It's RealAnime, so if you rip out the "Real" ...

I'm just saying, RealAnime has had the legacy of RealVideo support, and when I started encoding to RV10 a year or 2 ago, yours was the first program I used. Maybe if you changed the name... ;)

And there are still some people who use "Real"Anime solely for "Real"Video (I was one of them), so until RealVideo is marked completely obsolete (which it isn't--still beats XviD for low-bitrate anime compression), I suggest leaving it in.

Just my .02 :D

- old codec ...
- no developpement ...
- no portability ...
- not the best for anime now ...

I can't change name for it, RealAnime is too well known. RV10 wasn't supposed to be in RealAnime 4 (RealAnime LE) in the first place, someone wanted it so I added it.

RealAnime always been with the latest teschnology, for the most uncommon uses. I should even remove xvid since AVC is well supported everywhere.

why not make Realvideo support a power pack like you did for the old version so that it will be an option in future versions

I think I will start a new project and let RealAnime 4 this way.

I always use x264, so I couldn't care less if it was removed. If it removes 5 mb from the installer, then I am all the more for it since it makes it smaller and smaller means faster to download for 56k-ers.

seems most of my users have spoken.

RealAnime 4 will stay the same, next 4.x version will be bug fixes

new project is on the drawing board. Can't say much yet but it will be in C#.

Cool. MeGUI is going to have a new competitor!

Why? Just because it's in C#?

Part of it. :). Currently RealAnime4 is very easy to use from my point of view. Simple and straight forward.

Another reason is: If new encoder GUI is open source and written in C#, we will be able to compile the latest binary very easily once the source is up to date.

PS: If it's open source, make it svn just like RealAnime4. CVS sucks most of the time... :(

not sure if I will open source or not. I didn't have a good experience with OS with RealAnime 1, 2, 3 and 4.
