If it breaks up at the same point in the video regardless of the encode, it's probably the source that's the problem. If it's random and in a different place each time, try defragmenting your hard drive before you start.

its not the video to begin with cause if it were then it will be every video i have on my compter and i doubt they all have problems. however when i do an encode with the same video file in xvid that problem is not there. im using dvix because of my dvd player xvid resoloution sizes are always to big with my philips dvd player (im sorry can't remember the actual model). divx however turns out good (resolutoin wise) but the video breaks up (gets really block for a couple secs) everytime in certain parts. those blocky parts weren't in the original encode. is it because im change xvid to divx and i think it also happens when dvix to divx (im just resizing so it'll fit my tv screen)?
and i just defragmented my hdd not to long ago because of another problem that is encoding wise.

When you re-encode a previously encoded file, you're bound to have some problems with quality.

Your error might be a decoding bug. We don't know what codec you use for playback -- it could be DivX, it could be XviD, it could be ffdshow.
We don't know what settings you are using when you encode., or what encoding tools you are using.
If the problem is in the .avi file, create a small excerpt of the problem frame sequence for review. If you don't have web storage for such a file, send me a PM and I'll reply with my ftp server address for upload.
