Hi folks,

Finally I got a problematic DVD :sly:
I rip the DVD decrypter in filemode and get a "pack header" problem at the end. Googled about it and found other people with same behaviour of that disc.

After ripping the I can play the ripped DVD without problems.
If I do a FixVTS or vobblanker with default the ouput is unusable. Only the VOBID 1 out of 9 is intact. The main movie is VOBID 1 and 2 => "half" the movie gone.

I identified the pack-header problems to the very end of VTST3,8 which is part of the "extras". Main movie is contained in single VTST 3.1.

For me the log file from vobblanker is strange compared to decrypter, one could belive that it was completely different discs.

I don't remember anything unusual about that title - try reripping with dvdd with check for structure ptotection enabled

to tell that this is the swedish release.
I have tried all combinations.

I found something unusual:
According to PGCEDIT and vobblanker the main movie reside in V/C 1/1 to 1/14 and 2/1 to 2/7.
When I prepare it in DVD Rebuilder it states in the viewer that the main movie reside in V/C 1/1 to 1/14 and 6/1 to 6/7.
Yes that is right 6/1 to 6/7 and not 2/1 to 2/7.
This really smells like something I never seen before.

The Region 1 version of "The Constant Gardener" contained no special/newer copy protection and, therefore, should not require using VOBBlanker.

Try cleaning your DVD and then again using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 to rip. If you get the same (or similar) error message regarding .IFOs or .BUPs, return the DVD to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement...

The Swedish version of the DVD cannot be backed up. It is like there is some sort of production problem.

Cleaning the disc won't make a difference or even swapping it for a new DVD.

setarip_old: its clean, it must be something from production, several disc with same decrypter.log

If it is a production problem I really hope that they do not find a way to replicate it.
- The DVD plays fine in all players
- You can ripp it
- You can't change anything in the movie VTS, if you do it's screwed.

Sound like a big time protection

You cut off the beginning of your DVD Decrypter rip. What Region is your DVD?

It will be R2 DVD.

I can only suggest try to rip it with DVDFAB Decrypter has that has had some success with difficult DVD's or try getting a replacement anyway and hope it works.

I'm currently running rebuilder in "no compression" and so far no problems. VOBID 1 done, VOBID 6 in progress, no errors about the 2,3,4,5.

Checked movie part with DGindex and ifoedit
ifoedit:
VOBID: 1,2 (1/1..1/14, 2/1...2/7)
I conclude that ifo says 1 and 2

DGindex:
VOBID: 1,6 (1/1...1/14, 6/1...6/7)
I conclude that VOB uses 1 and 6

update:
checked VTS3 with vobedit and it confirms rebuilder and dgindex. In the vob there is only VOBID: 1,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13
The ifo states 9 VOBID's and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9

Is there a way to change the numbering in the navpacks to match the ifo. Don't know if this solves the problem.

Rebuilder processed it with an error in the very end, missing vobid2. But the DVD is playable, still uncompressed but it sofar the only software that leves it almost intact.

Closer to solution:
1. use pgcedit to add a PGC, insert 4 new cells. This will give me 13 vobunits 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13
2. Use ifoedit to change VOBID number 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,(10,11,12,13) to 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,(2,3,4,5).

Now vobblanker gives me a working movie if a use default settings and no blanking (haven't tried yet). Still it runs through vobblanker.

knife, can you post the IFOs somewhere? I would like to take a look at them. I'm curious to see which table in the IFO is screwed up... You could post them on yousendit.com for example.

Error free solution:
1. Use ifoedit to change VOBID number 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 to 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13. All places in ifo.
2. Run fixvts
voila

This is not a 100% validated solution, but the DVD plays fine. Haven't had the time or knowledge to check for more errors.
It opens fine in Shrink, vobblanker, powerdvd ..

It seems like many programs check for unreferenced cells by comparing VOBID in .ifo and .vob. If present in .vob and not in .ifo it's considered unreferenced.
The trick they done on this release is to have different VOBUNIT numbers in .ifo and .vob. Which means that the cells in VOB are only referenced by their physical adress (lba) in .ifo.
This is only a reflection, my knowledge in the field is too poor to state that this really is the case.

knife, I would need all the IFOs, zip them all up and post that, if you don't mind.
I think you're absolutely correct in your analysis, we compare VCID, but apparently, they don't really have to match (!!!!) and only the lba seem to matters for players. But I'll check that when I have the ifos...
