HD DVD and H264

I will post in this thread some information about HD DVD and H264.

there are 2 content format in HD DVD:
- The Standard Content
- The Advanced Content


Standard content:

Standard Content is the extensions of those in DVD-Video specification Ver. 1.1, especially for
high-resolution video, high-quality audio and some new functions. For example,
- New with Video stream : new codec/resolution
- New Audio stream : new codec/frequency/channel number
- New Sub-picture stream/Highlight Information :
- Extension of Navigation Command
- Elimination of some restrictions
- Elimination of some restrictions for transition among domains
- Introduction of Resume Sequence, and so on



Advanced Content

Advanced Content newly introduced to realize more interactivity in addition to the extension of
audio and video realized by Standard Content. Advanced Content consists of Advanced
Navigation such as Playlist, Markup and Script language and Advanced Data such as
Primary/Secondary Video Set and Advanced Element (image, audio, font and so on). At least one
Playlist file and Primary Video Set shall be located on a disc which has Advanced Content, and
other data can be on a disc and also be delivered or updated from a server.

H264 is one video codec use in HD DVD.
H264 is the only video codec which can use FGT (Film Grain Technology from Thomson).
The FGT is a option (not all HD DVD player can use it, the data of FGT is record
on MPEG Header of H264).

on MPEG Header of H264.the hd dvd docs i have say that its mandatory for the players to support fgt

but its not mandatory for hd dvds to use it
