View Full Version : Weird Scenarist Error on Alien 4 (Quadrilogy Edition)

Alien 4 was demuxed by VOIB since it contains a "Directors Cut" and "Theaterical Release" on the same disc.

Everything went fine --- including the import into Scenarist. However when I went to Create DVD Video I got the following errors that I have never seen before:

hi recoil47,

this error has been discussed before. there are a few tricks you can try to fix these errors, in these threads:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=77462&highlight=duration+frames+multiple+number+frame

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=70519&highlight=duration+frames+multiple+number+frame

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=70949&highlight=duration+frames+multiple+number+frame

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=58255&highlight=duration+frames+multiple+number+frame

try the suggestion by D3s7 of manually reducing the duration of the problematic video by 1 - 3 frames first and see how you go.

to be honest, i vaguely remember that trahald was (had?) worked on a fix for this but for the life of me i can not find the relevant thread (damn budgie brain)

anyways, good luck

Sounds like a good suggestion:

"Solution is this: Select that track in the track layout. Click the main video in there and adjust the "track duration" a few frames back (1 at a time preferably). Attempt to compile.

May take a few but you shouldn't have to go back more then 5 or 6"

However I have no clue how to actually do that stuff he just said. Can someone step me through how to do this, and where the commands can be found?

import into scenarist

open the track editor (top left tabs)

double click on the vts_04 track

highlight the video stream (single left click on the stream)

in the properties window (bottom middle window) you will see video duration - in there you can change the track length back by a frame or two

Here are screenshots of what I believe I am doing. One thing I think might be strange is the blue box on the top in the first screenshot goes on way farther than the actual frame picture(s), and the blue box on the bottom screenshot doesn't even get to finish the first frame --- almost like it doesnt exist.

Oddly enough (and I think you can see it in my screencap) there isn't an option for the VTS04_1_Track Video stream for duration. I clicked on other tracks and I do see where its an option I could edit. But not on the one in question. Does this mean I have bigger problems?

(running Scenarist 2.7)

oops ... sorry didnt get email notification that you had replied ....

your not actually selecting the video stream at the moment

use the magnifying glass to zoom in on the track, so you can highlight the (black) video

... or given that this is such a short duration track, it is most likely blank, so simply substitute it for a dummy track

recoil47

OK,

I did the zoom thing so now I can at least see what I believe to be the duration for the video. See the below pic and let me know if I'm on the right track. What values should I be changing it to?

Currently its at 00:00:00:29

This is for the Video stream, as you can see from the pic, the Scenes stream seems a bit odd too.

Sorry for the questions, but this one is a tough problem and I'm not familiar enough with Scenarist to just rip out the solution.

Well.

I tried re-encoding the assets and everything from square one to see if I could avoid this issue, and I can't. So I guess somehow I have to deal with this thing.

As I have posted above, I think I am close to being able to do the workaround, but I can't quite seem to get there, and when I try to "guess" via trial and error I make things worse.

If anyone can help stepping me through this --- or point out a fix to prevent this error from happening in the first place --- it would be appreciated.

Side note: Why the heck to random errors like this always happen on the last DVD in a given set (Alien Quadrilogy in this case)? Why would the first three be just fine, and the crap always has to happen to the last one. *sigh*

hey your almost there ! .... i hope :D

as you can see in your screen cap the duration is set to 29 frames in your property window ....

so ... delete you scenarsist mux data and cache folders from your working folder first (as a pre-caution)

then in the window where it shows duration, place you mouse cursor and delete the 9 and replace it with an 8. then try to compile.

if that doesnt work try repeating and using 27 as duration.

good luck

OK,

Actually my screenshot was before I already messed something up. After this fresh encode the duration was"

00:00:01:18.

So far I have decerased it all the way down to:

00:00:01:10

and now I get a different error:

Error This VOB has 80 fields (in track:VTS04_1_Track).
Error -- The preceding VOB in seamless connection must have equal to or more than 90 fields.
Error dvd_mux : DoMux Multiplexing Error
Error Terminated Multiplexing (ScenAid27.scn-VTS04_1_Track_t.vob).
Error The preceding VOB in seamless connection is too short.
Error Multiplex is failed.
Info Multiplexing failed, Track<VTS04_1_Track>

Error MuxFromDB:MuxVTS failed
Error Multiplex failed
Error DVD files could not be created

------------------

Even worse, I tried to set it back to the original 00:00:01:18 and I now get this:

Error The number of frames of audio is 9 shorter than video's "C:\DVD\Output\VTS04\VTS__04_V001-80-448K-[0ms]-ch6.AC3"
Error Please use longer audio file for seamless vob connnection
Error dvd_mux : DoMux Multiplexing Error
Error Terminated Multiplexing (ScenAid27.scn-VTS04_1_Track_t.vob).
Error Audio gap is detected
Error Multiplex is failed.
Info Multiplexing failed, Track<VTS04_1_Track>

Error MuxFromDB:MuxVTS failed
Error Multiplex failed
Error DVD files could not be created

--------------

This is majorly hosed up.

jel
4th April 2006, 00:27
well its not that badly "hosed up" ...

for the second part of your error, all you then needed to do was reset the duration of your audio so that the end times matched again ...

as for your first error ... one option is to change the connection type to non-seamless.

can you please send me the original .ifo files for this vts - check pm

cheers

hmm ... well, to be honest, if this was me, i would create a new track manually using the original source files and substitute in the scenario .... but that would probably take me a long time to explain :)

so ... before we start down that track, could you download the latest public release of muxman, and use that to import your .scp file and see if it throws any errors on import or on compile

cheers

OK sounds like a plan.

recoil47
5th April 2006, 04:22
Well that didn't take long. Here are the only errors I got importing that SCP into Muxman:

Duplicate menu type "Title Entry" in PGC "VTS4_Title3_PGC4", original is "VTS4_Title3_PGC3"
Duplicate menu type "Title Entry" in PGC "VTS4_Title3_PGC5", original is "VTS4_Title3_PGC3"
Duplicate menu type "Title Entry" in PGC "VTS4_Title4_PGC7", original is "VTS4_Title4_PGC6"
Duplicate menu type "Title Entry" in PGC "VTS4_Title4_PGC8", original is "VTS4_Title4_PGC6"

jel
5th April 2006, 04:26
hrmm ... are you sure thats not the numenu created .scp?

try the .scp file located in the scenaid folder of your work directory

recoil47
5th April 2006, 13:59
I do not use Numenu, and that was the SCP file located in my Scenaid directory. Filename ScenAid27.SCP.

jel
6th April 2006, 00:47
did you try hitting the start button, to see if it would compile? or does muxman give you a message regarding these errors and then will not procede further?

recoil47
6th April 2006, 04:25
It says check the log for the errors. When I press START it says "You have not selected a video file." When I try to select a video file, the default directory is the ScenAid directory, with no video files in it. So I really dont know where to go from there...or if I even should or can.

D3s7

for the record, the problem is due to pulldown... it shouldn't have happened if your using latest Scenaid and latest alpha/beta of batchccews... we've made adjustments the pulldown routines to prevent it (or so we thought)

recoil47
7th April 2006, 23:17
Well I am more than willing to re-encode everything. I will tell you what versions I have. Please let me know if they are the most current.

ScenAid: 1.7.0.7 (Public Version)
BatchCCCEWS: 0.9.1.6 Unstable

Funny thing is that I swore I donated to get VIP access to Scenaid, but I don't think I'm running in VIP mode. I click on the VIP mode link and it asks me for my code...

recoil47
8th April 2006, 05:11
It should be noted that I did upgrade BatchCCEWS to version 0.9.1.6 Final today, and re-encoded, and am still getting the same error.

if you want .. post the script (the .scp) and i will edit it to not use seamless for that segment.. then i'll attach it so you can use the new script. please zip it or else it will be too big

recoil47
10th April 2006, 02:54
If you could do that, that would be awesome! I have to re-run the encode process overnight. I'll upload the ZIP in the morning.

Thanks!

see ... alcohol hasnt killed all my brain cells after all ;)

@ trahald

will setting the connection to NSM remove the "Error This VOB duration (47.5 frames) is not multiple number of frame." error?

or only the "Error -- The preceding VOB in seamless connection must have equal to or more than 90 fields." error?

recoil47

Here is the script. Thanks again.

recoil47

I did post the script ZIP FILE, but according to my screen it is still "Pending Approval." Can you see it / access it?

jel

even though it may still say "pending approval", all the mods from this sub-forum (plus administration) can stilll view it.

i have approved the attachment so that any other interested forum members can take a look.

Trahald or anyone,

I just wanted to follow up. You were kind enough to offer editing the script that is causing my issue, and I never did hear back. I've been going through my files and there is still this annoying 8GB ISO of Alien 4 that I can't do anything with because it won't work with the backup process.

Its been a while but can anyone help with that? I think the script is still attached above in this thread.

Thanks
